please help with layer method

i can solve the puzzle but was wondering if i was doing it wrong. i want to go faster, when i am getting the corners after the crosses it seems to take several rotations before they get into place. i use ri di r d algorithm only. is there another algorithm to speed it up

Put the cross on bottom after you make it, then look for a corner. (I'll be talking as if I am making the white face)
If the corner has white on the right face, then do R U R' to insert it.
left face, do y' R' U' R or y L' U' L
up face, do R U2 R' U' R U R'.
(y is clockwise rotation of the cube in the y axis)
