Hey Guys

I am currently having a problem in my F2L. While solving an F2L pair I noticed I spend too much time trying to find out what slot the pair should go in. So I was just wondering how do you experienced cubers know exactly which slot an F2L pair has to go in as soon as the pair is seen? I pretty much know my color scheme but that doesn't seem like enough.

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else in the forums.

Any tips will be helpful...thx:)

You just don't know your color scheme as well as you think you do. :-)

It comes with practice. Go slow and once you have your pair, stop and figure out where it goes based only on the two faces you can see and not turning the cube. After that, learn to insert them without a cube rotation.

I agree with brunson.

When you have red and blue corner edge pair, you should already know where the red and blue sides are without even thinking. You should also do this for every other color corner edge pair, no matter what side of the cube is facing you. This comes with A LOT of practice, practicing is not hard...... Don't expect to get it right away.

Well this explains exactly why I have had so much trouble looking ahead. But I've actually reached a reasonable speed (35 secs avg.). I think once I practice this and get much better it will drop my speeds dramatically.

thx for the help guys:)

I don't think you need to know the colour scheme that well. I certainly don't. I couldn't recall off the top of my head which colour is left/right of such and such etc etc. I recommend more practise, your brain will do the work.

Usually when you get used to solving a certain color cross (if you're not completely color-neutral) it becomes easier over time to recognize pairs in the four lateral face colors. At least that's my experience. Yep... practice is probably the key to getting better at recognition. I know I'm still quite slow. You will probably with practice be able to get sub-30 averages soon, and then sub-25 is not far behind.

I insert them subconciously. I think my brain subconciously registers what colors are facing me and my fingers automatically slot them in. It's all very weird and natural for me.

I can barely recall the color scheme too.
