One-Answer Big Cubes Question Thread

You aren't far off really. My times are pretty inconsistent, from as fast as 2:30 to as slow as 3:30. For me, I usually aim for centres from 1-1:20. If I'm as quick as one minute for centres I'm off to a good start, and if I go over 1:20 I'm not happy. Same sort of thing for edges for me; 1-1:20 as a general statement. My 3x3 sucks and parity makes it a lot worse, so a good time can quickly turn into something crap. Sub35 for 3x3 would be awesome for me; I usually expect 35-45.

So my advice is to keep at it. Practising centres or 3x3 is obviously easier than practising edges, because with edges you have to solve centres first or it's silly. But I never really bothered much with breaking it down and practising individual steps. Just focus as you're solving, and remember to turn as fast as you can and lookahead.

I'm so helpful amirite?

Actually, yes! Thanks for the advice. I just wasn't sure how close my edges and centers should be.

If you don't like PP, you could learn a different alg. Try these (written in 4x4 notation, but still easy to use on 6x6):
Rw2 F2 U2 r2 U2 F2 Rw2
Uw2 Rw2 U2 r2 U2 Rw2 Uw2

Thanks a lot. I was using 2R2 U2 2R2 u2 2R2 u2 and it's just horrible for 6x6. PP would add ≈10 seconds.

does anyone find that the mini aosu is more locky than the regular size aosu? Mine seems to catch more.

Mine was a lot lockier pre-spring swap. After the spring swap, my aosus have different (full size has dayan, mini has soft weisu) springs in them, so I have nothing to compare.

Oh, side note: I replaced the stripped screw in my aoshi (had to completely disassemble it and swap in a new core, center piece, and screw), and tightened it so that it doesn't explode any more, and now it's awesome. It feels like it did before (and before the screw fix, it was fast and smooth enough that someone didn't believe me that it was an aoshi), but now it's unpoppable again, and I love it. Shengshou 5x5 springs do amazing things to that cube.

I do need to get some thinner lube. Weight 3 does bad things to aoshis. Mine is slow as heck.

I have almost a cc of weight 5 in mine, and before that I had 5ccs of weight 2 in it. Somehow, it's fast? I've put absurd amounts of lube in this thing <3.

If you're willing to fully disassemble it to lube it, using the method Chris Olson showed in his video for the mini aosu on your aoshi takes a lot of work to break in, but is really nice once worked in.

oh, thanks that was the answer. i am still not used to where the colors should go. the blue and the green were on the opposite sides. thank you very much

I have bought Moyu Aochuang, out of the box it has a sandy feel and over-lubed (not very fast), while scrambling I found a ticking sound while shaking the sound it getting rythmic,.... after searching a lot I found a loose washer inside the orange cap,.... :( ..... Is my cube okay or I have to replace it with a new one....???? pls. tell me....:( :(

your cube is just fine, just break it in. Moyu cubes always need to be broken in.

In THEORY, how many possible Last 2 Center cases are there for 5x5? Just theoretically, it'd obviously be insane to learn all of them.

Hey! I just got a last 4 edges skip on 5x5. In other words, when I undid my free slicing to proceed to the last 4 edges, they were all already solved (except for parity). I was wondering if anybody could figure out what the probability of this happening is (I know people have ways of determining the probability of certain F2L skips, OLL and PLL skips, etc). It blew my mind and I crushed my PB, went from 2:22 to 2:08 :)

Hey guys when I do edges on 5x5 (freeslice) I do the first 4 on one face, and then the last 4 on the opposite face (for faster speed on the last 4 freeslice edges). I've tried to do put the edges on both faces without order, but I'm a bit slower.

Is it faster to put them on both faces or to put them on 1 face at a time (like I do)?
I like to put 4 on the first face then do a z2 rotation so looks head is better for the last 4. (before the last last 4 edges) ;)

Personally I've never bothered putting them on a specific face. I just go for the next best looking pair I can find. I solve freeslice on M though.
