Oh when muscle memory fails...

It doesn't happen often but every once in a while my muscle memory fails on an alg, and for the life of me it just can't get it back. It's already way out of normal memory except for the first couple turns, so it's totally MM.

I've forgotten all of my G perms, which usually it's only one alg that slips away. The funny thing is these are ones that come up quite often in my solves, so it's not like I rarely do them.

I of course go back and relearn them but it's a pain. I don't know why this happens, but now and then it does.

This used to happen to me all the time too!
I think possible ways that it could be helped are:
- Having a regripless alg / execution, meaning the alg's natural flow makes it easier to follow
- Finding something unique about the alg, for example, my Gc alg begins with R2' U', which is an interesting fingertrick. This means you will associate the alg with something so memory of it will be better.

I don't know what G perms you use, but if they're not regripless, I suggest learning the RUD G perms:
Ga: R2 U R' U R' U' R U' R2 U' D R' U R D'
Gb: R' U' R U D' R2 U R' U R U' R U' R2 D
Gc: R2 U' R U' R U R' U R2 U D' R U' R' D
Gd: R U R' U' D R2 U' R U' R' U R' U R2 D'

Yea these are like the only ones that I use that have a rotation in them. I've tried working in a rotationless version before but gave up dor the familiar ones. Now would be a good time to work them in...

Thanks!

If you practice the algs via spaced repetition, it takes a lot of time for it to escape muscle memory.

Muscle memory generally fails me when there are two algorithms which share a similar start (first 4-5 moves are the same)

I think these happened because they are all a little similar and I got them mixed up.

I've been doing these for 15 or 20 years... Can't remember exactly when I switched from 2 look.

I used to use ZZ-CT and around a year after I quit, I was just doing some random hand scrambles and I happened to get a TTLL while solving and I saw the case and immediately did it. Then I kinda had a moment after the solve where I couldn’t quite believe I had just done that but then when I tried to do the alg again I wasn’t able to. I still haven’t successfully done that alg again to this day.
