Well i started cubing around 3-4 weeks back and my average is around 1 min 25 secs

This is how i go through

1.cross at bottom
2.intuitive F2L
3.Orient the Edges of Last Layer
4.Finish the yellow side [using the edge orient last layer algos][7nos]
5.do the corner switch algo
6.use the Edge Permutation Last Layer algos[4nos] to finish

what i really want to know is that should i learn more algos for my time or do i just have to practice to get better

this is how my time boils down

1.cross 10-15 secs
2.F2L 45-60 secs
3.Orient and Permute under 30 secs

my fastest solve: 1 min 13 secs [unlucky]

So any tips ?

just recognize the F2L cases faster and excecute them faster too. also plan out ur cross in the 15 seconds u have to look over ur cube, then work on the PLL and u should get faster :D good luck

Well yeah i know the keyhole method....

but i switched from that to intuitive F2L...thought it'll be faster...

Hinges -

I'm doing a slightly more basic version of the method you described, the difference being I only know two algs as opposed to seven to 'finish yellow side (orient last layer corners).

And with that I'm currently averaging 38 seconds with PB of 30 sec. So you can definitely do much better than you currently are doing. My advice? Practice. There is no magic tip that will make you significantly faster other than practicing.

Note: Over 300 solves I dropped from about 43 sec avg to 38, so 5 seconds. But seeing as you've got much more room for improvement, you'll probably drop much faster if you start practicing a fair bit.

Cool thats exactly what i wanted to hear...

Bounb and Avgalen do you guys have videos i can see? not tutorials just your solve videos...

AvG's solve
it's a very old video, but i can't find any more recent ones (they're not on his account, but i remember watching a sub25 average of him :O)

so basically you only start with olls and plls after you have reached a sub-30 average ?

And I am having a hard time going back to the keyhole method since I was practicing f2l these days..so what do you guys reckon ?

And thanks Bounb...you guys have been really helpful...

Cool then ill just keep on practicing that until i get somewhere...

thanks av

can someone boil down the time one takes on each stage of the solve...as in

cross 5-10 secs
f2l something

or something similar...

Well, it varies but for me it is roughly the following

5-6 sec - Cross
20-25 seconds (max) - F2L
10-15 seconds - Last Layer

Last layer break down(varies)
2 sec Orient edges
2-5 sec Permute corners
4-5 sec Orient corners
3-4 sec Permute edges

Video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLngnhmBKY0
Even though I've got this far I still feel I have tons of room to improve (and I do, as do you) and I will achieve that improvement with practice over time.

Edit: Seems last couple of seconds of vid cut off but meh - I'm sure you get an idea

It vary's for everyone.

My best solve for example...

The time at each part completed:
x-cross - 1-2 seconds
f2l - 9 or 10
oll - 13
pll 15

I would start learning the OLL's where the edges are already oriented (and the two algs to orient the eges if they arent already) and when you are comfortable with that, start learning more PLL's.

yeah i know all the seven olls after i orient the edges...and i have learned 4 plls for finishing it...

right now i think ill concentrate on getting faster by practice rather than learning more algos...

and thanks for the vid bounb

Sounds like a plan. Good luck. You don't need more algs than you've got right now to avg sub 30, and you can do it.

I just like to thank all you guys for all the help...you guys have been really great...
