Greetings!
I am time4d,a world-renowned professional speedcuber an overaged speedcuber-wannabe from Singapore.
Short intro
A little info about my journey… I picked up a Rubik’s cube at age 17 (in those days, I think the world record was more than 10 secs). Back then, I was only solving it with a sub-beginner’s method (not even the full beginner’s method). It helped me tide over a difficult season in life. After high school, I dropped cubing. I got back into cubing at 26 years old after watching some speedcubing videos. However, this stint was short-lived and I dropped cubing again. I somehow picked up cubing again in July 2019, and this time decided to go into actual speedcubing. When I first started timing, I was averaging 2-4 mins per solve. I set a final goal of sub-20 sec for 3x3.
I currently know 15 OLLs and 11 PLLs. Learning progress has been quite slow. Recognition/reaction time has been unsatisfactory so far.

Pb ao5: 29.72 sec. (Gan 354M)

Reason for signing up
I’m really too old to be actively involved in speedcubing events or forums. Being located in this part of the world has enabled me to get authentic brand-name speedcubes (stock) cheaply, quickly and directly from China. However, the local community is small and I feel I’m too old to mix in. Good online shops like The Cubicle and SpeedCubeShop are far away and charge expensive shipping. Being isolated from everyone, it has not been possible to “test out” cubes to see what types I prefer. I also don’t know much about lubing or setting up. Therefore, I have been unable to discover my cubing style or preferred setup.
Instead of buying many new cubes that I don’t even know if I would like, I was hoping to pick up some of the custom used cubes from the buy and sell forum to get an idea of what really is suitable for my style.
I know so little about speedcubing that for now I’ll probably be using this forum as a learning platform rather than a contributing one.
Future plans
I have always wanted to be highly ranked or set some kind of record in something, but I’m afraid this will not be possible given age limitations (my brain is only going to get slower, not faster). I’ll never be great in 3x3, so I’m just going to see how far I can go without losing interest. I thought about learning 4x4 Yau method, but decided to ditch it as it’s quite a competitive category. I’m currently interested in Clock and Square-1 but not sure if it is worth my (limited) time and effort to learn.
Time-wise, I’m a working adult and I travel fairly often so I can’t afford hours of practice a day. For the moment I try to do around 15-40 solves each night.
Here is the list of Singapore national records. Perhaps you could advise me which category you think is easiest to be really good at without having to devote my entire life to it.
I do not know how long I will remain interested in speedcubing, but for now I am enjoying myself.
Conclusion
Nice to meet all of you. Feel free to ask or clarify anything!
