[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

Exactly, and the algs aren't that bad. You could even just use intuition or something to learn that case.

It sounds alright, maybe good if you can pick up on cancellations and stuff. I do the step in a very fixed and rigid way at the moment (position two oriented edges 2/5 of a face away from each other and then attach the corner), so I'd probably benefit from something like this :)

If you want I can post the algs some time tomorrow as I am lazy. Or ask my friend if he can post them on his site *cough* jeyyy *cough*.

Hello all I am new to megaminx, and average about 3 1/2 minutes, with the occasional sub-three solve. I use a plain old layer by layer, alternating between inserting corners and pairs (I hope this makes sense) I know three or four OLL cases and four PLL, which I use for a very basic 4LLL. What are the biggest ways for me to improve? I currently am using a DaYan with ridges, which I just finished lubing and tensioning (which has improved its turning speed a lot)

All the practise! :) (srsly it takes a while to get use to turning a mega at speed, so just do lots of solves and you'll improve your turning speed and recog)

Alright, I will try and practice a lot. Thanks!

As an extension, look up how to do 4LLL - with 3x3 times like yours, you'll probably know all the CO algorithms, you'll just need to learn the cases. I only needed to learn 1 'alg' for 1-look EP, and you can do CP with simple comms, if you don't do that already. All this stuff should be documented somewhere, if not in this thread then on YT somewhere :)

Adjust U Face, and Simon just put in the purple star piece and built the pair then he moved it around so he could insert it.

But what if the pair is facing the wrong way? How can it be inserted? For example, if the piece you already put in the star piece was on the left side, but then your pair that you insert "faces" left, how do you insert it without ruining the already placed piece? I can't seem to figure this one out....

Thanks,
cube

Do you guys use the EO, CO, EP, and CP and then use commutators for the rest of the CP cases? Is it possible to be fast with this method?

Thanks,
cube

I don't really get what your talking about before but yea that's how I solve last layer except I just learnt all the algs for CP since im a nub at comms. It is very possible to be fast with it since it is just like OLL and PLL on 3x3.

This is what I mean: How do you insert the Purple-Blue Pair into the slot with the Purple-Orange star piece in place as shown?

U F' R U2' R' F

THANK YOU!! Finally. My times are very very very slow.... Like over 5 minutes.... This seems unnatural even for a beginner... Is it just a matter of solving over and over to get comfortable with it?

You can also do R U' R2' F' R F

Yeah Megaminx can take quite a while to get used to it.

Tips please, this mo3 is a sightly faster to what I avg since I am getting more sub 1s (yay) and you can just ignore the kpop.

Thanks!

MadeToReply- Sorry I can't help I am a complete beginner....

But I just got a dayan minx(stickerless with ridges) and I put some lube in the core and also loosened the tension A LOT but it is still not cutting corners ideally..... It locks up frequently and algorithms are not smooth... what should I do? Would tightening it help?

Thanks

Nope, loosen it way more. Seriously.
