I have finally begun to get faster on OH! And as I have been after staying stagnent for so long I am questioning why. I got the 19.xx averages solving normally so that shows I was improving regardless of changes in my method but when I got the 18.81 average I was using a very heavy amount of LL edge control mainly via VHF2L. The obvious reason for an increase in speed is it yields a very easy OLL and a chance to use COLL with a further chance on a EPLL skip. Really all you have to do is add 3 moves and you can get your edges oriented (if it takes more than that I just use OLL as normal) So my main question should I learn some type of intuitive ZBf2l so that I can get these easy LL cases every solve? obviously there are things like MGLS that will give me 2gen "OLL" but that eliminates the opportunity to do things like COLL. I supoose I don't as much have a question as much as I'm commenting on the fact that VHF2L (the very easy cases) have helped to improve my OH times.

Well, I influence EO throughout my solve, so I often get nicer ELS cases. However, MGLS still gives good opportunities for special cases. I often do VH if I have a pair at ELS, which gives me OCLL (tends to be faster than bad cases of CLS) but would also allow OCLL...
But, like you mentioned, I don't need to use 3 sides for OLL. :p

So, I agree, edge control is nice. (Actually, I think I can avg sub-30 with pre-orient OH, but I haven't tried in a while.)

I remember a post (by Dan D.?) in the Yahoo group about how sub-15 solvers always do stuff like this.

(And just wait until Tim reads this thread,)

i actually have been using the edge control for a while now and it makes an easy cross case pretty much every time but then there are the oll skips also i have noticed that on some cases you can use some plls instead of doing an oll

Lofty, where did you learn VHF2L? I've been meaning to figure out partial edge control at least.

Woah you still don't know partial edge control! This is like an easy example: You see all F2L done apart from one (it has already been paired.)There are also ,you can see, no edges oriented. You would normally insert it as U R U' R' insted you insert it as R' F R F' and it make an "L" shape.

I try to flip two (sometimes four) edges when I see that all four of them are going to be flipped incorrectly.
I better search the internet for some nicer algs, it's almost summertime, so no school = free time. :D

Yea. when I see I will have no edges and it is a connected pair I just flip two while inserting the pair. If i see I will have no edges and it is a seperated pair I do VHF2L now but i need to find something better. Maybe just pair it differently to make it a connected pair or to flip some edges... Let me know what you find Rama.
I think eventually we just need to work on a OH version of ZB, or like an intuitive ZBF2L since having all edges really makes things so much easier for OH.
