[Help Thread] Hoya Discussion

If you want to help me compile these algs, layout out a case in VisualCube and write the alg to solve it.

Here is an example of one of the cases I already made, keep everything the same except for the variable fd: http://cube.crider.co.uk/visualcube...nnnrrnfrrnnrrnnnnnnffnnffdnfnntddtdttddttdtdd

I'll continue to add some more when I have more free time.

Hoya army!

Here are some fd variables and their algs.. the last one is one Nilsibert came up with and it's as awesome as all the rest.

Thanks! Just updated with these algs.

Another Hoya-specific thing you could have is L2C algs that preserve the cross. JoeyVOV said he doesn't have to do the L-L' setup move, just an F, an Alg, and an F'. I already knew a couple, but CLL Smooth (another Hoya user on the forums) showed me a bunch of ways to intuitively avoid doing the L-L' setup moves, mostly involved 3Rw moves, and it's really helped me a lot.

I actually only do an F'. I've been experimenting with F as well though, I wouldn't recommend doing the L moves.
Btw meant to say, awesome job on the website dbax :D. I would contribute cases, but its clear you guys have a much more extensive knowledge of Hoya than I do.

Agreed... when I can pull it off without doing the L's, the transition into L8E is always so much smoother.

Here's another case:

nnnnnuunfuufnnnnndnnnrrnnrrnnrrnnnnnnffnnffnnnnn

Chree's 1st Alg: (R' F R) Rw U' Rw'
Nilsibert's Alg: Rw U' Rw'2 F Rw
Chree's Twist On Nilsibert's Alg: Rw' F Rw2 U' Rw'

Dealer's choice.

Just whipped this up with some free time. Obviously it is far from complete but I am definitely willing to improve on it. What other specific cases would we need algorithms for? I know there are still a few more cross edge cases I could throw in, as well as the last two centers algs. Let me know if you have good algs for any interesting case.

Wow! This is awesome! :D

I just made a video about the long insert. I just had to :)

I tried to speak up and sound a little more interesting/interested, so this was also kind of a good exercise for me.

I'm also going to edit my first post, so that it will include all the videos and dbax0999's awesome site.

This might be my favorite thing you've come up with so far. Because we get that case ALL THE TIME. As much as I tried to avoid it, I don't worry about it anymore.

Just got my 3rd sub-1 last night and new PB: 59.12. I probably used that move.

Thanks, and yes it's pretty cool to not have to worry about it anymore.

Also, what happened today:

I'd say this is my first actual sub 1. I'm not counting that 57.xx anymore, it was just too lucky. And I got it on cam too, which is awesome :)

I just did some splits with ctimer. This based on ao12:-

F4C
15%

Cross
24%

L2C
6%

Edges

OLL
7%

PLL
10%
I guess it's pretty obvious where I have most room for improvement, but, what do other people's Hoya splits look like? It would be interesting to see splits from some faster solvers.

I did a quick Ao5 and got this:
Full - 51.75

F4C9.1518%

Cross9.8319%

PLL6.3012%
Edit: Thanks Methuselah :D

Also, here is a 46.65 I got:

F4C8.6218%

Cross10.0922%
F4C - 9.15 | 18%
Cross - 9.83 | 19%
L2C - 2.07 | 4%
Edges - 10.11 | 20%
F2l - 10.02 | 19%
OLL - 4.27 | 8%
PLL - 6.30 | 12%

Can someone tell me how to insert a table, so I can re-format this disgusting mess of a post.

If you edit your post in advanced view, on the third row of buttons, click the first button, then just follow the instructions.

LOL... you "go advanced" then it's the leftmost button in the bottom bar. Fill in the entries between the 's. Alternatively, reply to my post, and copy and paste the markup as an example to modify.

Looks like my cross is way out of proportion, compared to yours; also my LL. Did you get any parities in that ao5?

2 OLL I think, 1 PLL. My LL is pretty bad. Work on your cross and edges definitely. What do you average on 3x3? Your F2l is pretty good.

Just tried an ao12 with Hoya. 1:26.xx. The end was sub-1:20. I only avg ~1:10 with yau. Hoya is pretty fun. Are there any good tips and tricks videos I should watch?

I average like 55 with Hoya and I have only watched a few tips and tricks videos which can be found in this thread. Practice helps the most.

I'm about 25-26 on 3x3 and ~2:15 on 4x4. My 3x3 stage takes about 30% compared to your 40% so probably I just need loads more practice on the entire reduction stage. F4C isn't as far behind as the rest of it.

Double post, sorry; but I'm changing the subject.

Here's a couple of things I've been messing around with for dealing with edges in back slots. Sorry if they have been suggested before - I haven't checked the whole thread, just the tips page.

(L' F' L' F L) (U Rw U' Rw')
(L' F' L' F L) (U' Lw' U Lw)
Rw (L U' L') Rw'
(L2 F' L2') Rw U Rw'
