My Rubik's storebought has lasted 1.5 years and is still a speed demon. Not to mention it has a mix of WD-40, Jigaloo, White Lithium, CRC Silicone and Vaseline in it . Storeboughts are REALLY sturdy.
Sub-1-ing H perms really isn't that impressive, seeing as that it comes up \( 1/72 \) times. I'd rather have a consistent cube that I have molded to my style and has grown with me than some cube that while good, isn't me.
My FII feels more rigid since I got it, which isn't very long ago. I'm probably going to have to clean and relube it soon, which makes me wonder if I have to do this every month of regular usage; I also have to replace the stickers since they're peeling quickly as well. I will miss the factory's lube though.
that happens to me too,
and i only replaced the stickers on the day i bought the cube.[/QUOTE]
They don't make the stickers like they used to anymore, eh?
The ones that come with the cube always suck and peel of very quick.
Thank God for CubeSmith stickers.
I haven't had to retire that many cubes, but I'm also switching off between cubes, which seems to have the same effect as rotating your tires or switching out your shoes.
Cubes that I've retired:
-Flat centered Rubik's Blank cube kit (too many pops)
-25th Anniversary Rubik's Cube (too loose, feels mushy)
-Mefferts 5x5x5 with tiles (feels mushy, center corners twist easily)
-Rubik's DIY (one of the edge pieces has a chunk missing from it)
Cubes that I've destroyed
-5x5x5 Eastsheen (fell out of pocket, landed on a rug over concrete)
-3x3x3 Rubik's storebought (dropped on pavement, center piece broke)
-80's era 3x3x3 with flat centres (had a pop, broke the centre piece when I created a parity and tried to fix it).
Cubes I replaced because I found something better
-4x4x4 Rubik's Revenge (it's good for about 2 months and then it becomes so loose that everything locks up)
-5x5x5 Professor's Cube (see above)
