Hi,

I am thinking of buying another two cubes for myself. Out of the package deals http://www.cube4you.com/package.html which is best?

The three packages I am looking at are:
1. Cube4you Black + White ......... USD$15.99
2. Black+White DIY Cube (c) ....... USD$13.99
3. Black+White DIY Cube (a) ....... USD$13.99

I'm not familiar with the Types of cubes, though I've read that Type A and Ds are best. Does that rule out Option 2? What Type is Option 1?

Alternatively, I am open for people to help me build one or two hybrid cubes. I'm quite into Speedcubing so I'm not setting any budget.

It would be great if someone can provide me links to the actual buying page from C4Y for a hybrid cube. I don't find that website particularly helpful because the descriptions of all the products are very inconsistent. Ideally, I would like the links for:
1. Type A core
2. Type D core
3. Type A pieces
4. Type D pieces

Thanks in advance =)

Cheers,

BopBob

It's all a matter of preference, I don't know about A or cube4you... but my type C pops a bit, and turns badly. Unless it it lubed and then it turns wonderfully.

Hmm... like Poke said, it really depends on your cubing style. Of the three packages, I would recommend the first option since I like the C4U cube the best among those options. The C4U cube does not have a type. It's an original cube developed by C4U. I feel like you have to try cubes out for yourself to really know whether it is good or not. Us telling you what each cube is "like" helps you make an informed decision at best.

Type A's are heavy cubes. They are relatively smooth and cut corners well. Unfortunately, they sometimes jam up and pop.

Type D's are lighter cubes. They are extremely smooth. But they can't cut corners and they jam up like little devils. I have never popped my Type D.

For more information on type As and Ds, check this thread out: http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3800

I can't comment on type Cs because I have never tried one. I have one on order though. As far as I know, there are pretty mixed feelings about the C. If you plan on getting a type C, I would recommend getting it from Deal Extreme. It's $6.36 for a black one. Free shipping.

Here's the link to the type A core: http://www.cube4you.com/index.php?gOo=goods_search_list.dwt&gcat=25&gtype=

As for the type D core, nobody ever uses that for hybriding. Unfortunately C4U does not sell cubies (pieces).

Here are hybrids that I heard are good: D-frame + F-cubies, Rubik's DIY frame + B-cubies, E-frame (Diansheng) + B-cubies.

I hope to get every type of cube and hybrid every combo imaginable... or at least learn what each type of core, springs, centers, edges, and corners brings to the table... combo-ing every one possible would be a while.

Thanks for the replies so far =)

What are the other websites that sell the cores and cubies? Other than C4Y that is.

Also you can get Type Ds on Ebay under the name "slickcube." They are $12.99 free shipping. They have the shittiest stickers in the world though so watch out.

Ok, I have decided to give the Type Ds a shot. I'm looking to buy one from C4Y (unless someone else recommends a better place to get one from). However, I'm finding it very hard to locate where the Type Ds are on that website.

Can anyone show me a link to a black OR white Type D please?

I would not recommend buying the type d from cube4you. I bought a white one not too long ago and it fell apart on the second day. My orange side literally unscrewed itself in a matter of minutes and my cube would explode all over the place. I kept trying to fix it and the hole in the core for the orange side got so bad that the screw can go in and out of it without twisting. lol... Also all of the screws were stripped. I could not unscrew any of them.

You would be better off getting it from that 9spuzzles shop that the guy mentioned above (I believe puzzleproz sells them also?). They have the "good version" of the type d. The difference between a good and bad type d are the screws.
