Garf’s “all rounder” end of year comp

If anyone is on mac and needs any additional help with setting up minecraft for speedrunning, I would be willing to help you troubleshoot any issues. Feel free to shoot me a dm.

I'll sit the smb1 speedrun out, I probably couldn't beat the game normally, let alone speedrun it.

Really nobody wants SM64 Speedrun🙁
I mean, you can literally play it on 64 (forgot how the console is named), switch, a modded 3ds, is on DS, and you can download it easily on laptop/computer

Maybe I will do the other speedruns if it's not going to be the one choosen

the console is N64.
As for speedrunning it, I think it would take a lot of time to get used to the mechanics of the game, since I know it has a lot of different inputs
SMB doesn't have that many, and now I think about it Minecraft does has a lot of hotkeys to memorize and need to execute them fast. But they're realativily easy to get used to and you can rebind them for easier reach.

Okay quick guide for getting set up for Minecraft Speedrunning:

As for setting up SMB for speedrunning, I don't know much about that and so i would recommend going to speedrun.com and checking out the resources there. All I know is that you have to set your keys to be similar to that of an original NES controller.

why not a web game Speedrun of your choice? that means more people can do that category
That would be hard to gauze, like how would you compare a Minecraft Speedrunner to a TWHG runner? They are two different games and have completely different mechanics/skill levels needed. I would do that, but it's just so hard to measure since I don't know much about speedrunning other games besides NES SMB, MC, TWHG and Scratch Getting over it.

do it kinda like a cubing comp. have the runners have 5 no reset runs, and calculate their times to an average like you do in a cubing comp. and the competitors get 5 days to prepare for it.
Agreed. Something like, say, Worlds Hardest Game would be fun
I am pretty good the whg, I mean I have a sub 30 death run of it, but I'm better at shift (the flash series).

Okay so Ive given this some thought and I think that the idea of doing an ao5 would per speedrun category would be appropriate. I’ll change the original post to match this reply, so here it is:
You can choose any game to speedrun, as long as it has appropriate categories for it on www.speedrun.com. Perform 5 no-reset runs, get rid of the outliers (fastest/slowest times) and take the average of the 3 times. Then, compare the ranking of your average to the fastest single time in that category and post it here.

I might do either SMB1 or any NES Tetris category

do we need to show video proof?
Submit your fastest run to www.speedrun.com and send the link. And in the description include all of your times and what ranked the overall average would be as a single time.
Edit: just realized if you already submitted a time faster than that, you might not be able to do so. So I guess a playlist of 5 runs would be good.

I unfortunately don't have the equipment needed for video proof (also don't have a YouTube channel...)

okay so here's what I got for what games people are choosing to speedrun:
@Justincubes and I will most likely do a Minecraft Speedrun. Idk about justin but I'm doing RSG, which stands for Random Seed Glitchless.
@BVCuber13 is choosing to speedrun super Mario bros.
@CubeLite want's a SMB 64 run
As for everyone else, let me know so that I can research each game and see what the speedrun is like.
