[Help Thread] FTO Discussion and Help

I think Qiyi is probably working on the first good FTO. They made the first good clock, the first good squan, the best domino and 2x2x3. They tend to step in when hardware is garbage.

So over the span of a couple of days, I tried solving the FTO without any tutorials or reference, and I have made it to the last layer specifically PLL (if that's a step). Basically three center (1-color pieces) need to rotate counter-clockwise, and three edges (2-color pieces) need to rotate clockwise, so I wanted to know if there's an alg that can solve this case:

there aren't any current speedsolving methods that finish with this kind of 'pll', so we don't really have good algs for it, but you can solve it with commutators, and an edge alg.
edge alg: hold the corner in front btw,
F U F' U F U F' U (cycles U layer edges cw)
as for the rest you can use center comms like, again corner in front and U on top.
R' Rw B L' B' Lw L' B L B'

Just started to "speed" solve my (currently unmodified) FTO. I have a couple of questions: is there a random state scrambler/is the scrambler in CSTimer random state, do I scramble with green on F or red on F and is there a set of "algs" that are sledges/hedges for every L3T case?
As of a couple of months ago, Cstimer added random state scrambles for the FTO event, so now we officially have random state scrambling!

Parrotting what I said in the WCA forum thread about adding FTO as an event:

Updates about the diansheng FTO: an application form was released to the public on may 8th to test the prototypes, and 23 people (including me) have been chosen to be sent the prototype and make a reivew. You can see the full list here on diansheng’s insta page. I have also separately compiled a list of the people, their world rank in FTO, and their youtube page and sub count, so you can check out our channels when we get the FTO. Dan (the world rank number 1) was informed by diansheng that the prototypes will be ready to be sent out to the testers sometime next month. With that, we will hopefully be able to see viable the cube is. I expect it to blow any other already existing hardware out of the water. I saw footage of a fast Chinese FTOer turn it and it really does look promising.

Some thoughts on adding FTO as an event: FTO is still far and away the best new event candidate and no other event comes close. A new speed magnetic fto is coming out very soon. It will introduce a new platonic solid previously not in the event list (which leaves 1 remaining, the icosahedron), has a completely different solving method that adds a tremendous amount, has a thriving community that is slowly gaining international appeal. Off the top of my head, I can name top solvers from Korea, Japan, India, Norway, Brazil, the UK, New Zealand, Germany, and so on. It is also such a unique puzzle. It looks kinda like a pyraminx. It has 2 separate orbits of pieces. The main speedsolving method is kinda reminiscent of yau in the first couple of steps. It has a relatively deep method depth, compared to other unofficial puzzles, and a lot of alternate methods to solve it (like bencisco, lbl, reduction, cage, etc). I have recently been learning TCP (triangle corner permutation I think), and there are a lot of nuances, like the even or odd cases, 2 flip avoidance, pre AUFs, and so on. It’s very fascinating. It also has a very involved process for knowing the color scheme during center building, and in my experience, it was the most challenging puzzle to learn how to solve compared to all the wca events. Even harder than squan in my personal opinion (james macdiarmid disagrees). So that takes care of worries that it is yet another trivial event. It would also be very easy to incorporate the plus 2 rules and such, it is a 3 fold symmetrically turning puzzle like pyraminx so it has the same metrics for determining a plus 2 and DNF as a preexisting WCA event. it is relatively fast compared to other events; the best people are comfortably sub 20, and the worst ao100 I’ve seen in the global rankings spreadsheet is only a 1:50. that means if you have done enough solves for an ao100, you are probably sub 2 already. much quicker than 5x5 and even 4x4 as an event. a random state scrambler has recently been developed, and officially added to cstimer. so generating scrambles from tnoodle for comps would be really straightforward, and it is one of the few random state scramble unofficial event we have. I know there was a lot of concern about that in this thread early on. There are a lot of color schemes, but I imagine with the release of the diansheng, that would serve to standardize it a little bit, and we already have procedures about what to do for 3x3 non standard color schemes for scrambling, so I don’t think this is that much of an issue at all. in conclusion, it would be the best if FTO is the next event. I love this event with all my heart, and the community around it.

Where do you think the random-state scrambles for the weekly comps here and at cubers.io came from, before csTimer added that?

some guy named xyzzy made them i think. but i didnt realize they were random state, i only just recently was made aware of cubers.io and the weekly comps here.

I have a question about the new Diansheng FTO. Is it possible to change the color scheme by disassembling the pieces? How easy or difficult would that be? I don't have one yet, but I'm thinking of swapping the grey face with the purple face, so that grey & white are not in the same orbit. This would mean there's a grey/white edge, but hopefully that would look fine.

Yes. The corner caps are fairly difficult to split though.
