I just wonder if my progression in speedcubing is abnormal. Right before Christmas i average 15 sec on 3x3 and around 1:30 on megaminx (my main events) and now i average 12.5 on 3x3 and ~1:00 on megaminx. This feels really weird since I've heard people being stuck at 15s longer than my whole cubing"career".

Well. I'm cubing for 6 years and average 16 secs at 3x3. So i think I'm the opposite to you :p
But others learn way faster than me. So I'd say youre decent fast but nothing too Special. And ist different where People get stuck. Depends on what they Focus on and what their bottlenecks are.

The megaminx is reasonably impressive though not entirely exceptional. Your 3x3, though not quite as impressive is still one of the faster progressions.

Of course this all depends on how much you practised over this period as those who get stuck will likely beat the time reasonably quickly if they upped their practise time.

How much do you practice these events a day? Do you practice other events a lot as well? Fast progression is often just a result of practicing more than average, so without knowing how much you practice it's impossible to say if you are special in terms of how quickly you naturally progress.

I think it's definitely because you focus on just a few events, so you can practise them heaps and get really fast. I'm not really sure if this is a mistake for me, but I practised and still do in a wide range of events at the same time. I don't know if I've wasted my time or now just a decent all rounder

Same. I think I'm going to start putting a main focus on 2 or 3 events at a time from now on to actually improve my times,, and just doing maintanance practice for the rest of my events.

I've practiced pretty much only megaminx since October, but I still did some 5x5 and very little of 3x3.
I don't really know how much I practice, I always bring a cube to school so that's a little extra practice.
For just normal practice it's hard to tell, honestly most of the time I just sit down and waste time on the internet and practice at the same time.

Oh forgot to mention, I got my first cube 1.5 years ago, first timed solve was almost exactly a year ago
