Cube Rotation Question

Ok so...I'm slowly improving =] But I have a few questions that I hope at least someone can answer. I'll make a video one of these days asking so I can clear things up a little more with what I'm asking.

A little background about me to start of, I've been cubing for about 5 months and I'm averaging around 25 sec now. All PLLs, and currently a little more than half of the OLLs.

Example 1: (I solve with a white cross, yellow on top)

Say RED is my front face, and GREEN is my right. I'm working on a green/red edge and corner piece. The corner is in ULF (or top left corner) and the edge is in the BU. To solve this, my solution would be to do an U' turn, then F' U' F.
The F' U' F, trigger is a little awkward for me though.

OR...

Should I just do like a d' rotation, then L' U' L?

Example 2: I have questions about inserting corner and edge pairs.

Say I have a pair and edge in the top layer, on the right side of the cube. And to insert it, I would have to do, a F' U F. For me in this case, I would tend to do a y' turn, then R' U R. Is this to costly of a rotation considering that I do this a lot?

I have a few other questions, but I'd rather make a video so I can ask more clearly. Thanks to everyone in advance.

d turns are in many cases good. My U-PLL for example: R2 d' M' U2 M d' L2

I say most people does y R instead of F, it's much faster if you do not got "crazy fingers". A quater rotation is not that costly but newer do (y2) R. In those cases it is much better to use the L-side and put in the pair at the back of the cube (example: (y2) R U R' --> L U L').
