Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

But everyone is entitled to their opinion, such as political views, so if they want to discuss that on their profile then thats on them.

Yeah, but they don't need to discuss them here. They should discuss them with friends or those who appreciate it. (I'm not against discussing politics, I'm just saying this for the sake of others. Also, I would rather have profile posts back with no politics than politics with no profile posts.)

It's good for off-topic discussion. What I really meant was that the mods probably found it was getting even more attention than the forum, and someone calling this a 'social media' was probably one of the last straws, since that's not the point of this website.

First of all, there was 1,000 times more good things on profile posts than bad things. Secondly, I think that people should be able to post whatever they want on their profiles (if profile posts were to be added back). I’ll use Nathan’s example of Sub1Hour. He posted the most random things on his profile, and like I said, there was no rule prohibiting him from doing that.

And to all the people who were saying how inappropriate and immature the political discussions were, you just need to educate yourself a little bit. I’m not trying to lash out or get mad at those people, but it is a bit ignorant of you to say that (paraphrased) “nobody respectfully discusses politics online.” This isn’t true whatsoever, and while some of them might have gotten a little out of hand (in others’ opinions, not mine), I think that they were all justified with the major election that was coming up. No matter where you are, there will be people talking about an upcoming presidential election. That’s how the US has been for over a century, and that’s probably how it will stay for hundreds of years to come. There won’t be as much of that now because it’s been over for months, so that’s not a good reason to say that profile posts shouldn’t come back.

Aside from the arguments about the political debates, I didn’t see anything that could be a good reason to justify removing profile posts except the spammers. But that is (hopefully) over now, so there isn’t really a good reason to not bring them back.

Edit: I just noticed the “most reactions in the last 7 days” and the “most posts in the last 7 days” thing. Great idea! One question I have about that is for the reactions one, is that the most reactions received, or the most reactions given?

I would think "most reactions received in the last seven days". "most reactions given in the last 7 days" doesn't make much sense. I don't think anybody really cares or want to know that. The most received would be interesting to know though

Amen to that @BenChristman1 and it's a total shame/embarrassment that they have been removed. Cancel Culture at it's finest (or something like that)...and it's no wonder I haven't been on here much. If people can no longer post on THERE OWN profile page and random people feel the need to read and then take offense at it (even if it is not directed to them/nothing to do with them) then what kind of platform is this anymore? ...please give me a rational reason. Personal Profile Page means just that, and it should be your area to breath/talk as needed...especially as not everything on this forum has to be "cubing related"...if that were the case then why has the "off topic" section been shut down as well?...can anyone answer that?

With that I totally respect someones decision to stop something for a rational thought, but since I have not seen anyone post something that makes sense to stopping profile posts, I am sad to see that. Is this my platform...heck no obviously, so the rulers of it can do what they want, but that won't mean that people will start to leave it/not visit as often due to the vary point of being muted with no good reason at all...time to look elsewhere unfortunately.

I suspect many of you to dislike this all (especially as truth has been uttered), but that's okay with me. I will continue to be professional in RL and where needed, and here I was just hoping for a place to unwind at times and help guide others as best as possible to the truth. But now it is more evident then lat year that not many of you care or are ready for that...and if you are looking for something more, please let me know.

"I am not perfect at all, and no one is for that matter, but please don't assume the worst about someone ever, especially if you never meet them or got to know them in person to see what trials they have been through in there personal lives".

See some of y'all around. SDG

Profile posts seemed like a good place to post something casual/informal that wasn't quite worthy of a full post in the forum. It's also something that's attached to the forum users' identities, as opposed to chatting in a cubing Discord server with Discord user accounts, or on r/cubers with Reddit user accounts, or Facebook with Facebook accounts, etc.

The flip side to this is that a lot of people were also using it to discuss a lot of non-cubing topics, which is kind of a weird situation. We do already have an off-topic subforum, and it's hidden from the front page by default because it was drowning out all the actual cubing discussion. (As it turns out, there's a lot more of not-cubing topics that people can talk about than cubing topics!) As a community, should we prioritise making it fun and welcoming to everyone, or should we prioritise making it a useful resource for cubers? These goals are mostly orthogonal, but they're also sometimes at odds with each other (as mentioned: off-topic posts drowning out cubing discussion), and inevitably there will be people upset that the admins picked one over the other.

I don't have much of an opinion on whether profile posts really belong here, but I do have an opinion on how the profile posts were just entirely removed without any warning. That doesn't sit right with me. (It's sort of like the removal Feet as a WCA event, now that I think about it.)

Cancel Culture at it's finest (or something like that)
Overdramatic much?

You're still permitted to say exactly the same things you were prior to the removal of profile posts. You just have to post them in threads instead.
