i just cannot turn fast.

if i repeat sexy again and again, i get a TPS of about 6-7. but thats just the easiest move and i know whats coming.

i do the same scramble again and again, so by now i know my solution by heart. i literally have a no look solve. but still my TPS doesnt get better than about 3. dont know what to do.

anybody's got the same experience, any hints? or have i just hit my natural border?

thanks in advance,
Klaus

3 TPS with about what, 60 turns, is a 20 second solve? I'd be quite happy with that personally. My PB is 36.80. :)

To get your turning speed up, make sure you have a good cube, you warm up your fingers, and keep practicing. Spam all the algorithms until you're blue in the face. Make sure your turns are smooth and fluent, and not choppy and blocky. Brody made a good video recently about that, using the metronome as an example.

Make sure your solutions are ergonomic. If you're using F and B moves all over the place, that'll definitely contribute to the low turning speed. For F2L, rotating is usually faster than doing FU/BU inserts. Use good OLL/PLL algs (see e.g. CubeSkills' lists).

Wrist turns are acceptable for R/Rw/L/Lw turns, but for everything else, make sure you use your fingers to push the layers. Less physical motion means less time needed to complete the action.

Post a video and we might be able to pinpoint the actual problems you're having.

(Also, if all else fails, work on efficiency to compensate for your turning speed; that's pretty much what I did.)

thanks for your answer.

of course number of turns is another factor, but i'm focusing here on TPS. doing a solve i know by heart as fast as i can, thats got nothing to do with PB.

i practice a lot, and how to get "Make sure your turns are smooth and fluent, and not choppy and blocky " is exactly my question.

i will try to find Brodys video, thanks.

Hi xyzzy, thanks for your answer (my above post was to AbsoRuud).

in this specific solve there is nothing fancy. F2L is so (lucky) that it can be done without rotation, just using R, U and L moves. i use 2-look OLL and PLL, and the algs are the ones you can find everywhere, so they cannot be too bad.

efficiency is good of course, but it will not get me sub 20 or something.

Your TPS will increase with practice. High TPS but poor movecount won't improve your times. Better to move slow and make efficient moves than fast moves with lots of delays/pauses. When you execute a T-Perm, how fast is it? Your TPS can definitely increase with practice. Doing a memo'ed solve over and over isn't the best way to measure your limit for TPS, just work on solving more, drilling algs, and lookahead. Look at reconstructions to see how others are solving and ensure you're using good algs.

Hi pjk, thanks for your answer and hints.

as i said, i practice a lot and i think i use OK-algs. but maybe my practice isnt very productive!?

i just executed a series of 10 T-Perms and a got an average of 3.14.

"Doing a memo'ed solve over and over isn't the best way to measure your limit for TPS " Maybe not for TPS, where pauses also count, but for your physical ability to turn?

Hi WombatWarrior17, thanks for your answer.

i cube for about 8 months now and i average somewhere around 45-50 seconds.

i completely agree that power is nothing without control, but i fear that finally some power is needed too.
as i turn rather slow (by nature) and see no real progress there, i ask for some advice here concerning specially this aspect.

Look up "J Perm" on YouTube and watch his F2L videos, that will help you a ton.

How much do you practice? How do you typically practice? At your speed of 40-50 seconds, typically just solving over and over will improve your times. Watching reconstructions to see more optimal ways to solve would be useful. Are you using CFOP or some other method? Are you using full OLL and PLL?

As mentioned, your TPS will come with time. You don't need to turn very quickly to get sub-20.
