I know they're both no flip, and you memo some numbers and perform a calculation, but I don't understand what the real differences are, what the steps are.
Does anyone have a comparison of the 2?

The best way to see the differences would be to just watch the tutorials for both. (hint: 7simul is better!)

Why? its pretty hard to learn
1: it might be difficult to learn at first, but keep going and it gets super easy
2: it is much easier to switch methods when you are slower because if you get fast with flip first, the only way to do that is to be very comfortable with the method. That makes it much harder to switch.
3: because getting fast at flip depends so much on grinding and not on understanding advanced techniques, the difference in difficulty to learn something like 7simul, isn't going to change much between averaging something like 30, and averaging 4.
4: obviously there are also motivational sides to this, if you average 4 with flip, and 12 with 7simul, you're not going to feel very motivated to practice 7simul because you're so much faster with flip. on the other hand, if you average 18 with flip, and something like ~25 with 7simul, that's not that big of a difference and you'll be improving very quickly.

Yes, please learn 7-Simul early on if you can (if you want to get really serious into clock). Flip is wonderful if you want to learn how to solve it easily, but 7-Simul is hands down the best method. Getting it ingrained into your mind earlier on is extremely beneficial and saves the struggle of switching methods.

1. Can you learn clock just with 7-Simul first without ever knowing flip?
2. What clock to buy? (never done clock)
1: yes you can, but it will be pretty difficult. I would recommend getting comfortable with the basics of flip, just to make sure you understand the puzzle enough.
2: QIYI. CLOCK.

honestly i think its worth it, the qiyi clock was my first clock and I think it was totally worth it since clock was really fun :)
I feel like generally I don't spend a huge amount of money cubing (again could be wrong) but been cubing for 1.5 years and all my cubes are:
2x2: YJ MGC: $10
3x3: Gan 356m, Moyu Rs3m, YLM, Qiyi warrior w: $47 (total)
4x4: MoYu Meilong: $11
5x5: YJ MGC: $21
Lube total: $10
Random qiyi set with 2x2, 4x4, pyra, mega, and skewb: $45
Timer + Mat: $43
Grand Total = $187
If I had a qiyi clock then my total would be $222 with around 16% of my total collection value on one clock. Will still seriously consider though as I've heard it's the only good clock and I want to try the event.
