sometimes when I feel a cube has toi mich lube and it's skowed down too much...
I grab a baby wipe (unscented, so it's only got water in it, and a trace amount of aloe)
and I use a comb (a short 6" ruler would also work)
Lay the baby wipe out flat and lay the comb on it cross-ways and fold the baby wipe so the bottom edge of the comb sits there
Then I pull the wipe/comb through each layer
Think of the E, M, and S slices: I do top and bottom gaps between layers, then x-rotate and repeat, then y-rotate and repeat
I usually re-fold the baby wipe around the comb so a clean section gets used each time I rotate the cube
Its a bit tricky with 5×5 but it still works pretty well, you just have to kind of brace the layers apart slightly with fingers on one hand to help get the wipe/comb in between the layers (esp the inner layers)
and on a 5×5 I recommend doing the outer layers thoroughly first, then do the inner layers...
and also re-folding the baby wipe to a clean; section again when you do the inner layers too of course...
also, be careful not too press downward tkward the core of the cube, the teeth on the comb will start shredding the wipe, just try to oull it evenly through the gaps between the layers (an small ruler wouldn't have that issue)
See how the cube feels after doing that, and with big cubes I sometimes end up doing it a second time with a fresh clean baby wipe
