Question #1: White Cross
How important is it to learn to solve white cross on the bottom (if my current goal is to be sub-20)? I average a 3-4 second white cross with white on top, but I know that all the faster speed cubers solve with white on bottom.

Question #2: Intuitive F2L
I’m currently practicing JPerm’s intuitive F2L, and I was wondering how far I can take it? Would I want to learn all the F2L algorithms to average sub-20?

I appreciate the help!

I switched to cross on bottom when I was averaging about 45 seconds. This is very important because it eliminates a very time-consuming rotation. I currently average sub-14 using intuitive F2L (for the most part). You shouldn’t learn algorithms for every F2L case, but you can look up algorithms for some of the harder cases or cases with a higher move count.

1. You don’t have to solve it on bottom for sub20. You ABSOLUTELY should though. It removes a large rotation from the solve and will greatly improve your transition to F2L

2. Intuitive is fine. Even algorithmic F2L is intuitive. I’d recommend going through the algs for each case figure out how it is solving the pair instead of thinking of it as algs.

3. Use the existing help threads!

doing white cross on bottom makes you not need to do a x2 or z2 rotation to put it on bottom once your done

you should only learn algs for hard cases like a corner in place and the edge flipped

I like that idea for F2L, I’ll work on it and see how it helps me. Thanks!

You should solve cross on bottom for sub 20, I would highly highly recommend it. If you don't your first pair look ahead will be terrible and you're also gonna develop poor fingertricks for D moves.

Intuitive f2l should be enough for sub 20, at least it was for me. Just learn 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL and keep practicing. You'll be able to get sub 20

You should solve cross on bottom period. No matter your speed.

Some newer cubers argue that they haven't learnt any F2L algs before they became sub 10. Not applicable in all cases, as turning speed likely decreases with age. When you become quite accustomed with F2L, it's generally recommended to slowly incorporate F2L algs for the cases that take you the longest.

Good point. I just wish that I learned to solve it on the bottom when I started…

Luckily, the OLL algorithms I already know are the same ones in 2 look, so I’ll go ahead and hop on the 2 look PLL algorithms.

Wow, I didn’t realize that was the case. I don’t have a very good understanding of F2L, but I can work on that.
