I am a new cuber hoping to take up one handed. I have the option of either the yj zhilong mini 3x3 or the gan 354 v1, what would you recommend?

Neither, use your normal 2H main. Size doesn't matter nearly as much as everything else about the cube, unless you're already pushing your limits. (Which you aren't, because you're just starting out.)

Side note: It's very funny that people got scammed into believing the Tengyun v1 was a 55/55.5 mm cube just because it was good for OH. It's actually on the larger end (55.7-56 mm, depending on how you check) compared to its contemporaries, not smaller—its being good for OH was a property of its light turning and (relatively) weak magnets, not its size.

I don't want to imply that you definitely won't benefit from using a smaller cube, but:
(i) Get the Zhilong because it's cheap and it's nice to have a smaller cube for EDC purposes or whatever. Not because you should use a smaller cube for OH.
(ii) You should continue practising OH with a standard-size cube. Size really matters a lot less than you think; you find certain moves hard because of course you do, everyone does when they start out on OH. I still do and I've been cubing for years!
(iii) Thumb-pinky gives you more reach than thumb-ring. That's why most people use their pinkies to do R moves; it's more comfortable to grip the cube that way (unless they have large hands). The pinky is a weaker finger than the ring finger, so pinky turns may initially seem harder than ring turns, but it really is better in the long run.

Some food for thought: there's a difference in hand size of around 10% between adult men and adult women on average, but you mostly don't see female cubers preferring smaller cubes.

Well I assumed the Tengyun was smaller because of the product description on TC. But yes, amazing for OH, especially for Roux solvers. M-Slices are incredibly easy, which is why it's also considered extremely good for blindfolded ( easy slice moves in general ). Most underrated cube imo.
