Sience i've gotten my 5x5, i've broken and replaced the center corners three times (thank god for Cubesmith) and otherwise pop often. Is this normal for a 5x5, how does one not pop or twist/break center corners?

i'm not adding any answers to this, but i have to agree. i haven't broken any pieces yet, but the center corners are a huge problem. i tend to solve slower than i could in order to make sure i don't break anything. the center edges occasionally decide to rocket across the room. no big deal, but i did happen on a plane last week. luckily a guy was watching me solve and he found it and gave it back to me.

it may have something to do with how much it is lubed. i have never gotten my 5x5 to be anywhere near as fast as i'd like it. i bought another can of lube last night so we'll see if that minimizes the center corner issue.

lastly, when you guys are lubing a 5x5, do you take it COMPLETELY apart like you would a 3x3? i've been opening up some of the top layer (yellow), spraying lube like crazy, putting it back together and then repeating on the opposite side (white).

Are you guys using a Rubiks or Eastsheen cube? I have only used Eastsheen, and when I got it, it was lubed already, and the only problem I have ever had was a center pop, which was easy to snap back on.

I have a eastsheen one as well and I have had zero pops so far. I`ve been playing with it for about 2 months now. I lubed it bye just spraying in it while it was assembled (I believe in keeping it assembledfor as long as possible)

i'm using rubiks. i bought both my 4x4 and 5x5 prior to knowing about eastsheen. i suppose i should breakdown and buy a couple eastsheens.

My Eastsheen 4x4x4 and Eastsheen 5x5x5 are comming in this week. So just make a 1/8 turn or something and spray it full? Or takes some edges of and then spray it?
Tips?

OT: Buy a Eastsheen :P

I've got an eastsheen 4x4 and 5x5 aswell, I also have a Rubiks 4x4 which is very nice but pops a lot too. I sanded down the centers of my 4x4 eastsheen a bit which enables me to do center moves a bit quicker. I've got my 5x5 for 3 months now and it has only popped once which was a bit of my own mistake, I like it a lot but the cubies are to small to go a bit faster. I've heard about rubiks 5x5's center corners, so I hesitate of buying one of rubiks. Maybe the olympicube 5x5's are better, but it would take a while to get one of them... About lubrication, I don't understand why there is so much effort to take it apart for lubing. What wrong with just spraying in a small gap by turning the cube in the right way? I've tried taking my cube apart and spray it then completly but didn't sense any difference...

my rubiks 4x4 is ridiculously fast, but it "hard locks". i.e. if it is not positioned perfectly in alignment, it won't budge. i assume that sanding some of the pieces would help, but i'm not familiar with the process. can someone shed some light?

i have the same problem as you, but my pieces tend to pop out when i turn it even though it locks. seems like the looser it becomes, the easier it breaks.
