In my experience it takes a bit of trial and error and time to get it right. You could film some solves at home and see how the angle is looking and try and get a habit of putting it in the optimal position for you. Also if your phone has an ultra wide view then that makes it a lot easier since you have a lot more room for error.
yeah, i have an i phone se so no ultrawide lense (maybe I could use my brother's 13), but that's a great suggestion to practice at home. I will definitely do that.

I have an extra tripod so I can lend you one there. Mom does a lot of filming so we just have a couple of extra phone tripods laying around.

Is it spring loaded or do you have to use a lever?
srry, I don't understand.
Like when you put in the phone, is there a spring in the holding mechanism that let's you be able to put the phone in and it holds due to spring tension? Or do have to use something else to clamp the holder onto the phone?
to hold the phone in place on the stand, does it work by compression or just a lever
