I've never seen a statement that I agree with yet full-heartedly disagree with.

I agree with this

There's not really a need to learn OPA. If you can execute the alg in around 5-8 seconds, you should be fine to keep doing it when you get parity. What I would say is learn OPA when you get to sub-30. Only by then should it really matter.
What about trying to get a sub-30 single and it seems like every time the solve gets killed by parity and it turns into a 35?

At your level perhaps there is more of a reason but for someone who is not sub 1 I find it probably not the best use of time. That being said if he wants to learn it I have nothing against it as long as he enjoys it.

While this is true, I don't see a point in really learning OPA. It might just be me though.
It's not really learning anything new, it's more like taking what you know already and making it better. OPA so far has made me more efficient in my center+edge building.

Why? Because it makes you more thoughtful?
Exactly. It's not learning any new algorithms. You do 3bld tracing to wings, and the way it works is that every new cycle you add a number to a counter, and every time you see a oriented wing relative to centers (like W top/G front) you add 1 to the counter, but for a misoriented edge you don't add anything to the counter. After going through all the cycles count any full misoriented edges and if the number of oriented edges are odd the cube is in an odd state and with even oriented edges it's even. And when you solve you are mindful with what moves you do. Also lookahead will be hard at first but then it get's better.

Yeah, so far, my success percentage is like at 60% lol, but what gets me is being able to do it in under 15 seconds during inspect
I'm working on that rn. What I learned is that at the beginning of the 1st cycle, I don't count if good left edge/count if bad left edge and then put the edge in BD. That way when I count I don't have to count BD edge.

okay, so I'm having some problems. I'm having difficulty determining if a wing is good or bad, and the best yt videos that I good find by that guy Ari are a bit hard to follow as he rotates the cube a lot (i lose track of the green/white scheme) I'm also finding that it's hard to know when you have to start another cycle. they say to just pick another edge, but how do I know that I haven't already done that one? hopefully I'm making sense. help would be appreciated. thx

set YT playback speed to 75% or 50%

honestly, some big cube solvers are so fast that I sometimes set it to 25% like to see how they did a center or their edges👻

What I do is that after I see an edge to trace to, I place a finger on it, so that I don't go back to it during memo. After going back to your first cycle and there are edges you haven't traced (you'd know since you didn't place your fingers on those) then you trace those edges and memo is done.

okay, am having a tough time figuring out which cube to use at the comp. it's between the 11 m pro and my Filacore WRM ERM. Both are so good, but both have drawbacks. first of all, the gan's plastic is so bad when my fingers are cold and when i am nervous so yeah, and the wrm is just so fast. I mean I can easily control the wrm at home, but with nerves, I don't know how I'll do. the gan tho, is just so easy to use, so if I can get a grip on the plastic, I think I'll perform very consistently, but with the wrm I can sometimes finesse and very fast solve. I'm leaning towards the gan but...AAARRRGHHHH

Take both and warmup with one of them on your own. If it feels bad, use the other one.

You got two weeks to choose, don't sweat it. Give each of them an AO100, across four days (give it two days for EACH to try and weed out any potential inconsistencies in temperature, nerve, time, etc) and see which one you do better on. I did this to choose between the Valk M, GTS2M and GAN Air SM and I found I did ever-so-slightly better on the GTS2M (21.08 vs 21.43 for the GAN Air SM and 21.65 for the Valk, respectively).

Lol, you had a gan vs moyu decision too.

today i am going to begin what @Bingus Ringus McDingus suggested which is an ao100 for both the Filacore wrm ERM and the 11m pro. was doing some casual solves and both feel great, but the wrm gets those S moves and harder algs so much better. also going to polish my gan cube with an idea that @artless1der shared with me. thx to these legends. will check back in later with some halfway results. peace
