Who said that "looking faster to the community" was his incentive at all? You have completely jumped the gun here, and started pointing fingers and accusing him of stuff which is false. He is having FUN. If he wants to post it, let him post it. If you don't like the thread name, don't open the thread, simple. Please delete your SpeedSolving account if all you're going to do is be toxic, and unhelpful.

If you had seen his previous "fast solves" (which he has since deleted), its quite obvious that he wants to seem fast. He posted a 8 second solve which was clearly fake when he averaged about a minute, and posted a skewb 1.81 single (also pretty obviously fake) when he averaged around 10 seconds. I agree that some of the stuff on this thread has been clearly out of line, but to a certain extent, he brought it upon himself by posting fakes solves, trying to justify them, and trying to seem fast instead of practicing to get fast, like the rest of us.

I agree. But I don't think that 1.81 was fake though.

I'm pretty sure Riley is doing this just to look fast to the community, he has tried that several times before and it's getting annoying now. I have to say tough 45 minutes of constant hula hooping is quite impressive, and I admit I was a bit too harsh in my previous comment, sorry for that.

He still think that his bike solve is a UWR... He commented like 21 hours ago.. Come on...

It's really not.

Yep. I'd rather just call myself a speedcuber than say "I solved the most Pyraminxes while hula-hooping". Although I would be impressed if someone actually fast at Pyraminx, like Drew, did this. To be honest, if you could go for the world record for longest time hula-hooping, I'd be impressed, but adding you solving a Pyraminx rather slowly makes it feel like a novelty act.

Guys... I don't get why y'all have to be so mean. Seriously, give this kid a break.

Think about it this way: if you are a 20-second 3x3 solver, and you want to get a 3x3 record (continental, world, etc.), you obviously won't get any legitimate records for SPEED any time soon. But if you try for a record based on ENDURANCE, or solving as many as possible, then you, as a 20-second solver, will suddenly have a chance because speed doesn't matter as much anymore. This UWR attempt is just like a UWR attempt for solving cubes underwater as possible, or solving cubes while running a marathon, or anything like that: if you can hold your breath underwater AND solve cubes, or run a marathon AND solve cubes, or hula-hoop for 45 minutes straight AND solve cubes (or Pyraminxes in this case), then you deserve a WR.

Perhaps we all expect cubing WR's to be speed-based, instead of endurance-based, because (except for MBLD or FMC) that's exactly what all competition WR's are: fast. But it's time we shift our mindsets a bit. Riley might want to look and be fast, but this WR has nothing to do with that. It takes a completely different degree of willpower and concentration to do things over a long period of time as opposed to a short period of time. Sort of like running a marathon versus running a 100-meter dash.

I believe that if Riley was trying to solve a Pyraminx as fast as possible while hula-hooping, then the UWR would be pointless because almost anyone can hula-hoop for the amount of time it takes to solve a Pyraminx. But solving 138 Pyraminxes AND hula-hooping is different. I don't think very many of us could pick up a hula hoop right now and spin it for 45 minutes straight, not to mention doing that WHILE solving Pyraminxes.

Basically, Riley's WR is not useless. Riley's WR is not undeserved. But Riley's WR is well-earned. And if you haven't tried it, you should probably stop talking. I tried the same attempt, and I barely did 20 Pyraminxes before dropping my hula hoop.

I can honestly see the potential in this kid to be top10 in the world for something. He has so much motivation and really wants to get better.

But about this, if I can get a hula hoop and a guy who cares enough to scramble my cubes, then I'll do it. But I don't have one. I'll try to get one soon. Every record has to start somewhere, right? It may be slow at first, but, hey, somebody's got to do it first.

I disagree, instead of taking the time to get fast at an event, or get a uwr that people care about, he took the easier way out and did something nobody has done before to try to look good. Now I'm not saying what he did was easy, it was probably quite hard and is pretty impressive. I don't think I could hula hoop for more then 2 minutes. I just don't think doing something so vague that nobody has done before, and calling it a uwr is kind of silly.

and calling it a uwr is kind of silly.

Definition of world record:
Collins English Dictionary said:
the best achievement in the world so far in a particular activity
That being said, since no one else has been witnessed doing the same "particular activity" so far, Riley has a UWR, and he can rightfully call it so. But then again, with this logic and definition, you could argue that any obscure thing you did was a WR - it's really just a matter of whether it's pointless or not.

Exactly, and in my opinion it's a pointless world record, but that's just my opinion, and there is going to be plenty of people who disagree.

He's young, having fun and if Guinness approves the world record (which does not need a representative present, only if you want it verified immediately) then that's great, since I imagine a lot of the same criticisms apply for solving cubes underwater and hardly anyone would dare call that pointless.
Of course solving underwater is pointless. The difference is that with solving underwater a lot of cubers, including fast cubers and people who are not as fast but who have spent time training to hold their breath for a long time. It is competitive and nontrivial to beat.

I've always disliked ANY kind of uncontested "world records", and not just in cubing, but the dozens that are published in Guinness's book. They don't belong in a record book, because they are not records, just a thing someone did.

Besides, he obviously hsan't even spent enough time doing Pyraminx to learn a decent method or to have good lookahead. It would be really embarrassing to our community if this video was considered a record.

I'm all for flaming something that's truly pointless, but this isn't one of those videos. He spent a solid 45 minutes on this record which was bound to strain him physically.
I spent a solid 45 minutes doing OH solves yesterday. Can I get a Guinness record for it?

I'm curious how many of you would actually say this stuff to his face instead of hiding behind your keyboard.
If we were somehow friendly enough to be honest to each other, I'd tell him it's dumb and it's not a record, and that he's not good at Pyraminx yet and should put more time in. But if he was just some random kid, of course I'd be diplomatic, I don't want him to hit me or something...

This is just stupid please stop doing this. Almost anyone can get an uwr if they pick stupid enough event. Do uwr or wr in some real event and you'll get lot of respect.

I bet I could do uwr for most "insert any reasonably normal puzzle here" solved while juggling 2 diabolos... but that would be stupid. Just like this is. So if you actually want to be good at something then work for it and if you aren't then shut the f up.
