Petrus for Lent
ZZ for Life

:p
I'm doing nothing for Lent, CFOP for life... I hate CFOP, but it's the only method I'm good at, even after quite a bit of practising with ZZ (can't look ahead) and Roux (I'm very inefficient). I've been trying some Petrus recently (i.e. since watching these videos), and I have two major problems (ignoring lookahead, that comes later): firstly, my EO recog for edges in DL/DR and BL/BR sucks. Do you do an L2/R2 to recog them, or do you have a way of doing that and avoiding any extra moves? Secondly, I can't build blocks. I fail so much. Could you give me any tips for efficient blocks?

I'm a bit confused at what you mean by DL/DR and BL/BR. Do you mean that you solve the EO with the solved block on the left/right? That's a cool idea.

I always solve EO on the front such that the solved 3x2x2 is centered at DB. When it comes to recognition, a bad edge is an edge that can't be matched up with its center in 1 move, although I'm sure you already know that.

Because I have history in ZZ, I always solve a 3x2x2 block that is "parallel" with my solving orientation in that the bad edges I will inevitably have to flip will be the same as the bad edges from my ZZ orientation. 90% of the time, this means I start with the yellow-orange 3x2x2 (the DL side of my ZZ solving orientation), put that at DB, recog my ZZ bad-edges, solve them, rotate, and spam my ZZ finish.

Basically, for anyone with a background in ZZ I recommend:
-solving whatever 2x2x2 is easiest
-rotating the cube such that your standard U/D ZZ color OF THAT SOLVED 2x2x2 is on D
-rotating the solved 2x2x2 such that your standard F/B ZZ color OF THAT 2x2x2 is on B
-spam RUF to solve the front 2x2x1 and create your ZZ-congruent 3x2x2
-place that 3x2x2 in the back and spam RUF to kill all the ZZ-bad edges (as if you did eoline inspection from the side) [or you can solve the EO from your zz-orientation, which is less ergonomic, but saves 2 rotations]
-finish

Could you give me any tips for efficient blocks?

Make a 2x2x2 block right now, and do 3-4 random moves to it, observing the effect that your random moves had, then undo them.
Do that a bunch of times with other move combinations.
Try to think how you can force one of those "nearly-solved" states during Petrus inspection time, then solve that state with one of the 3 move "algs" that you created.

Good luck!

Btw, if anything I wrote doesn't make sense, just point it out and I'll explain it better.

I can make a "Petrus for ZZ-ers" video guide if need be. lol :p

On my from what I have seen on the forum, this nugget of information is really useful IMO.

Wow, thanks! That's quite a lot to look through and I have school now, but I'll keep this page open and take a look at it when I have time. My thoughts not in much detail because I don't have a lot of time:
Yep, I just keep it held whichever way I solve it.
I solve EO with the block on DL/DR because then the F2L is easier and you don't have to rotate. The issue I have with recognising misoriented edges is that I can't see them with the way I hold the block...
I'm y-axis neutral with ZZ, so that'll probably make it a lot easier as I don't have do decide which orientation to use; I could just do whatever.
I forgot about holding the 2x2x2 in DBL and using RUF :fp My blocks including rotating a lot and doing a lot of L moves.
I'll choose less rotations over ergonomics. My rotations are slow.

What you said about the 2x2x2 block is really useful, thanks. I'll definitely try that. I think I remember seeing that before, but not for months. I'd forgotten it completely. It might even have been you that said it...

Hey What is your Youtube?
and awesome avg. I avg 24 sec with Petrus with CFOP being my main (sub 20)
I am planning on doing tutorials for Petrus but do you have any tutorials?
Waiting in anticipation for your reply...

I don't have any Petrus tutorials yet, but I've considered making either an "Advanced Petrus Concepts" or a "Petrus for ZZ-ers" short video guide (<5 minutes max).
