Hello,
So I just recently got a 2x2 (Yesterday) but knew how to before using beginners method... I have 2 step OLL for 3x3, so I use that... and my average is somewhere around 11-12 seconds... I tried learning half of ortega and found that I average about 14-15 with it... what should I do to keep improving my time (Keep working on ortega or anything else?)
Thanks

Practise
Get a good cube
Practise
Finish learning Ortega
Practise
Practise
Learn algs from different angles, particularly PBLs
Learn to predict OLL
Practise
Switch to CLL

Ok, so

1. I will keep practicing
2. I have a wittwo, tensioned and lubed (Not very much though) and I have a Moyu Lingpo coming.. (which should I use?)
3. Ortega seems slower for me right now.. should I keep at it?
4. Can I have a site with algs from different angles or something?
5. How can I practice predicting OLL
6. Can I have a page/video with CLL for future reference?

Thanks

Yes, definitely keep going at Ortega, you should be able to comfortably average about 4-5 seconds before switching to a more advanced method

1. Gj
2. Probably lingpo, but use whichever you prefer. Both are excellent.
3. Keep at it, Ortega is pretty fast. It's capable of low 3 averages.
4. www.cyotheking.squarespace.com
5. Learn to trace pieces with the OLL color. You'll learn to track how the move and predict the OLL.
6. See #4.

Don't forget eg-1, one look auf, eg-2, and tcll. Maybe leg-1
Yes, but that's not something to think about at his speed.

Good, remember to be colour neutral: it's easy on 2x2.
2. I have a wittwo, tensioned and lubed (Not very much though) and I have a Moyu Lingpo coming.. (which should I use?)
Both are good. I personally prefer the LingPo, but it's very fast and not everyone will find it controllable. Use whichever you prefer.

Yes. Ortega is as good as you're going to get without having to learn 40+ algs for CLL.
4. Can I have a site with algs from different angles or something?
Most websites will have them from different angles if they have more than one alg. For example, on Chris Olson's page, anything with a U, y or x move before it is from a different angle to normal.
5. How can I practice predicting OLL
Track the stickers of the U layer to see where they'll be after the face, during inspection. It takes practise, and usually a short first face, but you'll improve at it.
6. Can I have a page/video with CLL for future reference?
Look at the links on this page.

1. Throw your 2x2 in the rubbish
2. Purchase a 4x4
3. ????
4. PROFIT

1. Ok done. (I threw it in the trash instead of "the rubbish".. hope that's ok...)
2. Already have one.
3. So I turn myself into 4 ?'s... Ok...
4. YAY

i pretty much write this into every thread like this, but i simply cant understand how impacient some people are. dude you have this cube 1 day. 1 freaking day. and you already ask for help? wtf.

I know i'm late but, I have been solving 2x2 for a long time now.. probably almost 3 months... on 4x4s and 6x6s though... so I have had THIS cube for one day (Longer now) but I have been working on 2x2s for a while.. anyway.. my main question was to keep working on Ortega or not. I was wondering if it would be worth it.

Keep with Ortega. I got to a low 3 global average with it before switching to CLL.

It's quite hard to get that fast with Ortega. I can only average a little under 4 (although I never predict OLL, which is something I can do), but low 3 seems like it will take a lot of practise for me even though I average 15 on 3x3. I think you should start leaning CLL when averaging 4-4.5, maybe 5.

Sub 4 was the result of OLL prediction. Low 3 was the result of learning to predict my PBL, letting me onelook solves.

Predicting PBL is easy, except for knowing where the bar on U is. OLL prediction is much harder. All you need to do is know how your OLL effects each CLL case (I got a lot of practise of CxLL from ZZ, so I find this easy except for L cases) and you can predict PBL as you look at OLL. If I really try (which I don't often), what I do during solves is this:
  • Inspection: predict permutation of D layer, predict OLL
  • Do face
  • As I AUF to do OLL, see which CLL case it is and predict permutation of U layer and thus predict PBL
  • Do OLL
  • AUF/rotate as necessary and do PBL, as doing this I check to see if I can predict AUF
  • Recognise AUF if necessary
  • AUF
I still struggle with AUF prediction when one of the layers is a diagonal swap and the layers are 90 degrees from when the alg would usually solve the cube. Most of the time it's fine.
OLL prediction is also hard for 4+ move faces (5+ is rare, but I do it sometimes if it's faster than a hard-to-execute 4 move face e.g. one including F U' R').

I'm curious as to how you predict PBL without predicting OLL?
