[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

Loosen it until the centre caps won't even go back on, then tighten it a tiny bit.

I tried this... on the first turn the whole mega exploded hahahaha.... I guess a little too loose... I tightened it back up again a little so that the pieces stay on but it is not corner cutting like i have seen in the videos online.... What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Thanks

I'm not sure what to suggest then. My mega never pops no matter how loose I have it.

I loosened it to where the screws started coming out.... A little too far... I tightened it but it still is not ideal because it locks and cannot slice at angles very well, even shallow angles... Anyone else know what to do?

Maybe try just playing around with the tensions but make sure there always like above the thingo that things and that stuff like that. Make sure its like loose, they suck when they are tight

What Richie is ever so wonderfully trying to say is, line the screw head with the center pole inside the center piece and if you find it's ever so slightly too loose, you should tighten it a tiny bit until you are satisfied.

Hahaha I see.... I have been playing with the tension and I got it quite loose and fluid... However it still locks and does not corner cut........What else is there? Just keep using it and break it in? It's still really new so maybe that could be it?

Yeah - there's a possibility you're just overturning at the moment, so give yourself some practise time on it and see how you do. I found myself with similar problems to you with my Dayan... I still don't think my mega is great but I average 1:50 so can't complain really :)

Thanks... I'll give it some time to just get used to it.... But I have seen some where they can do fingertricks and algs like on a 3x3... How can I make mine like this?

The fingertricks are the same, you use the same fingers for pretty much the same moves...and you often use the same algs as on a 3x3.

no, no and no. (No they are not. same fingers for some moves, that's mostly correct, but it's not completely correct. I'm not convinced... if you do then you are not solving the megaminx as a megaminx, and if you don't solve it as a megaminx you shouldn't solve it in the first place, because it's not a 3x3x3 it's a megaminx)

Would it hurt to loosen the tensions on my SS Megaminx too?

it would hurt NOT to loosen it -.-' ShengShou is more popresistant than Dayan in my opinion

Haha, thanks, I'll try it later.
Although I don't like the megaminx, I'd really like to get faster, locking up and dropping it (on the table) isn't helping.

I wonder what you mean by 'finger-tricks' then, can you clarify?

What I meant was indeed using the 'same fingers for some moves'. I haven't seen much difference between mega and 333 (at least nowhere near as different as with SQ1 and pyra).

(according to your argument for a fingertrick, I could take it as far as saying pressing a button with your index finger requires the same fingertrick as doing a U' turn on a 3x3x3, or pointing at an item requires the same fingertrick as doing a U'.) To me fingertrick=/=finger, to me fingertrick is a specific movement of one or more fingers

Since a megaminx has slightly different shaped pieces the finger would need to have a different course than for a 3x3x3, therefore making the fingertrick for U' on 3x3x3 different than U' on megaminx. I guess we have different opinions on what a fingertrick is :)

To be honest, I've never had any opinion/argument on what a 'finger-trick' is as I never seen it discussed nor have I discussed it, so I just went with what I understood it to be in simple terms.

What you're saying is far more precise that what I have previously thought, which I prefer.

Thanks.

Depends on what you call "work". Of course you can always solve first the corners then the edges, but there are no free slices you can use to solve the edges intuitively, and you thus have to use comms, which are slooooooow (edge comms suck on the megaminx)...
