The Solve Critique Thread

Grammar aside though, he makes a point.

Wow. This was way more serious than I expected from waffo

Anyway, agreed. And you said it like ru-ix. I was like wtf and rewatched it and that's what I heard. But seriously, improve cross, you took ~5 seconds to recognize that ocll. You said I don't do many cube rotations while you do 15 or so.

I think he said he does too many cube rotations...

anyway, just improve on everything, which means practise, watch youtube tutorials, read reconstructions, practise, and practise. And talk less while you're solving :P
btw you should aim 5 cube rotations or so per solve. None of them at LL except if it's part of the algorithm

Yeah you're probably right. I had volume kinda low. Also don't do y4 and U8 to recognize the oll. Cause you did just about that.

You've got little 3/4 move triggers which you do super quickly.... dont. Slow down the whole process, make smooth flowing moves which will make it much easier to see where the pieces are, then slowly build up speed from there... for inspiration check out this video.

Okay, I have started practice OH a few weeks ago. I was averaging over two minutes at first. I have brought it back to 1.30. Today I filmed a few solves for this topic and I accidentally had a sub 1 solve. ;) anyway, what are the quickwins I could focus on to get faster?

Learn to do R' with pinky or ring. It's hard at first but it gets better with practice. It will eventually be much faster than adjust grip/index finger. Also, you can try to find better orientation of cube for cross the moment you pick up the cube. Cross on D is not always the best for the fingers. For your scramble, for example, I might start with cube with x' and do R2 U'.

Ahhh. That makes perfectly sence to do cross on a better side. I can do the R' with ringfinger btw. That's how I practiced the last layer algs. But during a solve I always do it the alternative way. Don't know why. I think just because with ring finger is so damn hard. My pink is too short to even reach the cube. ;)

I have a short pinky too. It was easier to practice with a smaller cube. And to reach, I have to hold the cube a little better. With a bit of manipulation, everyone who can reach with their pinky to touch their thumbs should be able to reach the cube with their pinky (it may not be comfortable though). And practice more LL algs so hand can become more coordinated in the movements. I also practiced a lot of RUR'U', RU'R'U', RU'RU...

Lol weird...
I got my first OH sub 1 today as well (52.92)
Freaky right?

Use the table less, if your pinky can't reach the cube use a smaller one like a 55mm, improve fingertricks, watch asmallkitten's video, that's pretty much all you need to do at this stage imo.

I don't know if this belongs here, but...

F L2 U2 F' R2 F2 R2 U2 F2 D2 B R' F2 R2 D' F2 L2 R' F2 L

I almost never try to solve an x-cross, but I tried it for this (after solving normally then spending quite a while thinking about it)

z2
F L' F L' U' F2 R U' R'

Is that the best solution? I also remember doing one that was 1 or 2 moves longer but ended up pairing green-red.

1 move shorter than your solution. lol

z2 D R' D' R U' R'

L U L'
d r U2 r'
d R' U' R
F (U R U' R')2 F'

or

That is a 55 mm I am using in this video. I also have 50 mm Zhanchi, but it is the same problem. I will work on it for a few days and see if I can get the pinky to work along in OH solves ;)
