How do I get sub 15 on 3x3?

Some people just can't. Maybe you've reached your limit...

Thank you thats so reassuring.
BTW thats not true cos with a prepared solve i can reach sub 9 easily so i just need something to click inside me. on a good day, i.e. that one day every couple of years, when i dont make mistakes. i can get a low 15 average of 100. but i just screw up most of my solve most of the time that a sub 16 ao12 is rare.

edit: im gonna spend all my time practicing look ahead till my f2l is sub 8. even if it take me like a year.

moar edit: is sub 16 good for someone whos been cubing for 9-10 months?

Considering after the best part of two years, I'm not even sub-20 (too busy wasting time on other puzzles, haha), I'd say that's pretty damn good! You're probably doing all the right things, just keep at it and you'll get there :)

also tl;dr for this thread
practise lots, if you can identify a weak spot practise that more
Also this

Okay, I just realized that "turning slowly instead of high speed and try to look forward" is actually works! Okay, I know, everybody just keep saying that, but guess what? It is really true! :)
My normal average is about 16-17 sec, and I decided to practice some slow solving (at least at the beginning, reduce my TPS). I expected 18-20 sec, but instead, I get like 14-15 sec, with pretty much sub14. :O

What kind of sorcery is this? :)

Pauses, even though they don't seem like it, take a lot of time compared to actually turning and doing something. Turning is fast and takes almost no time, many people can sub-1 many PLL's, which means more than 14 tps. In comparison a single small pause kills your flow and could take 0.2 seconds or in a really bad case even 2 seconds. Going slower but with less and shorter pauses means you always turn and always do something, never stopping which means you complete the task of solving much faster. I agree, it always feels like sorcery but it just works.

Sub-16 is great after 9-10 months. While some progressed faster(I think 5BLD was sub-10 after a year or something crazy), most are on par or slower than you at 9-10 months. I'd suggest a couple of things:
1. Make sure your cube is good. I'm sub-13 with a Guhong, but when I switch over to a Rubik's brand(a decent one), I'm around 15.
2. Look at what's slowing you down. Are you turning slowly? Are there pauses in your solve? Do you mess up? Whatever it is, work on it. Try turning a tad faster, or slower, depending on what's the problem.
3. Be calm when you solve. When you're stressed, it's harder to concentrate.

Sub 15 is not hard, it's like sub 20 and 25, they're not actually barriers. It just takes longer to get there than the previous ones.

1. Make sure you're doing everything right.
2. Practice it.

Unless there's something outstanding you're doing wrong, simple practice will get you there. Doing things right at this point are:
- having good OLL/PLL algs
- smooth F2L
- ability to turn calmly and slow enough to look ahead
- pause only a little
- improving PLL recognition from all angles
- not having to think about the cross after inspection, keeping it under 8 moves always without bad finger tricks
- decent cube, lubed and stuff
- don't lock up and pop all the time, if you do, slow down.

sub 10 after a year? WTF OMG HOW? Thats actually insane.

I was ill for the last few days and my average has gone up from 15.xy to 17.xy due to the fact that i dont look ahead at all as my head is spinning. My cube is brilliant, in my opinion better than any cubes i have ever used( apart from 5BLD's, its amazing).
i dunno how this work but i just checked again and its probably less than 9-10 months, more like 7 months. cos i started on april 2012 and cubed for 2 months, by which i got to 22s average, all Plls learnt and 2 look OLL. then i lost my Zhanchi and didnt have any other cube and couldnt buy any so stopped cubing for 3 months. went back to 30s average and kind of started again at september, had to relearn some PLLs and learnt all OLL in a week(yes i am proud). that was from September 2012 to now which work out at 7 months. yay! i actually been cubing for shorter than i through.

Why cant i get sub 15?

Hey guys, i use the full CFOP method in rubik cube and i have been stuck on 16 second averages for quite some time now... like 8-9 months... please advise me on how to get sub 15 solves please?? what am i doing wrong??

I've been kind of stuck for 2-3 months too but I think I'm making slight improvements... more sub-13 times some days. I'm still basically at 16 averages but I'm getting more better times. As long as I feel some progress it's not too bad. Maybe after another half year I'll get tired of being stuck here... but then again I'll probably be busy with some other things in the months to come so it won't be as noticeable.

Edit: But really, post a video is probably the best way to tell specifically.

just do it faster and cube more maybe some of the algorithms can be done faster, or you're taking too long to scan the PLL thingy

if i could give one piece of advice, it would be to take a break. i used to practice all the time, and i realized that sometimes our brains get incredibly tired...so take a short break (like 1-3 weeks) - come back to cubing after 3 weeks or so, and you will have a completely different mindset, and you will have amazing times. If i am not mistaken, breandan vallance took a 6-month break and returned 2 seconds faster (i believe he was already sub-15 at this time).

I agree with Aaron. Taking a break from serious practice for a month or two(still do some practice, but no daily avg100 or anything) can help a lot.

Yeah just do it faster and the PLL thingy

His username is "noob"...

Cyoubx has a good video on how to get sub-15. It's a few years old, but it's still good. After watching it, I got a sub-16 average of 12. (I average around 17 seconds)
