The Solve Critique Thread

Sorry these aren't tips but I couldn't resist commenting two things:
1. I hate when my stickers chip like that... the yellow sticker you have with a hole in the middle. Mine do that. I can stand the edges chipping but I can't stand the hole in the middle.
2. Being someone without double-jointed thumbs, I always thought it was freaking weird to see double jointed thumbs bend backward that much.

I would like some advice :)
Ive been cubing for a few months now, i know pll, 2l oll and average about 22sec. 15 sec is the record.
My recognition is way off, but I think its getting better. I do make a lot of unneccesary turns and rotations, think im gonna go slog more often and try to focus on limiting the turns.
Appreciate it :)

Yeah, recognition could definitely use work as well as look ahead of course. But you've only cubed for a few months so as you do more you should get more comfortable with the cases (I'm speaking about F2L more than LL). It also seems that you're not entirely familiar with the cases. You can practice by doing F2L blindfolded (or just close your eyes). So once you spot a pair, close your eyes and execute it without looking, then find the next pair and repeat. This will help look ahead later because then you won't need to look at the pair you're working on. That being said, you're pretty fast for only cubing for a few months. Hope this helps.

Thanks mate, im gonna try closing my eyes! Theres no special way to practice color recognition is it? Im always using different stickers, maybe i should try to stick with a brand :)
Im gonna look into some more f2l tricks as well!

No problem. What do you mean about different stickers? You use different cubes with alternate colour schemes? Or you do cross on a different colour sometimes?

I mean that i use different cubes with the same color schemes but different brands, halfbright, fullbright and so on. Probably doesnt make that much of a difference but still!

You've done amazingly well to average 22s with pauses like that (@18s there's a 2 second pause looking for a pair)! Recognition and lookahead will reduce the pauses dramatically. One thing I noticed that nobody's mentioned so far is you cube rotate instead of AUFing to line up both OLL and PLL. It's much faster to AUF (i.e. U/U'/U2) to line up the U face for your finger tricks. Should shave a few milliseconds off your times!!! ;-)

I have memorized all the OLL's for 2x2 and I usually get solves around 20 - 26 seconds. My best is 13 seconds.

I'll get a video up soon.

Thanks buddy, working on that now!

I kinda just wanted to post this somewhere. Advice is welcome, but I know that my problems are rotations and pauses :)

I think that there should be a more 'trade' type thing in this thread. A lot of people are just asking for critiques (multiple times usually) and aren't helping out others. It may just be me, but I think that people should be giving and getting advice a not make sneakly be giving all the tips ^_^

EDIT: Kinda like what was said in the very first post...

Your cat looks so cute and docile, very unlike the stereotyped cats on the internet :3

You've really have to minimise rotations during the cross, as it can really screw up your sense of direction and lookahead for the first pair, and even more so for you for being CN. During F2L, solve a pair without looking for it whilst looking for the next, I guess you already know that. You should be familiar at at least solving some of the more common cases without looking at them. So yeah, constant lookahead for the next unsolved pieces, never linger long enough to break your flow. As for LL, it's quite ok for now :)

I know my main problem is my f2l but I was wondering if someone could be more specific as to tell me what i'm doing wrong.

I use full fridrich and started in feb

I know for some of the solves, I lost the flow of the solve and couldn't get back on track with look ahead so I completely failed the solve but other than basically forgetting to look ahead on certain solves, what should I work on?

Look ahead. You have too many pauses during f2l, work on not stopping between pairs.
Also work on cross so you don't pause between cross/f2l transition or during cross. Going slower usually gives you better times when you look ahead.

For whatever reason I decided to check here to see if anyone posted some new vids and then I read your post... Wait... you were referring to little me? Anyway, I'm not giving much tips only sometimes and there are others giving tips too. Anyway, I don't know about trade but generally you ask for tips from someone faster than you and faster people give tips to people slower than them (usually). So the faster people are going to be giving more advice and the slower people are not going to help out as much simply because they need more help for themselves.
