[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

So after reading these past few posts, I have come to the conclusion that I am going to buy the Dayan Megaminx.
But first, which one? Are any illegal in competition? I don't know if I'll ever compete in megaminx, but I would like to leave that option open.

I would assume the stickerless one is illegal, and I'm not sure, but the finger ridges looks like something WCA wouldn't allow. What about color? Does that matter?

All dayan Megaminxes are allowed except for the stickerless ones. The ridges are therefore allowed, don't worry.

I think I'll get a blue ridged Dayan Megaminx. I don't have any colored puzzles, just black and white and stickerless :S

I have solved it down to the last layer. I finished OLL. I just can't figure out PLL. The normal algs aren't working.

Congrats my average for my first ever comp was less than a second away from the NR, and then the NR holder got it lower. So I came close again during my next comp, and he lowered it again ;_;

Jayden- sub 1:25 my friend, who actually was a mega freak passed away before he could get an NR, I actually did that for him
JianhanC- very bad, practice a lot and set a tougher target for him

He doesn't just do the first one that pops up in front of him? It would take lots of time to look all around the cube for the easiest one.

Why is the scrambling notation for megaminx written how it is? R-- D-- R-- D++ R-- D++ R-- D++ R++ D-- U can be written R- D- R- D+ R- D+ R- D+ R+ D- U or even r' d' r' d r' d r' d r d' U since in scrambling, you always do "R-wide" and "D-wide" moves, always turning the face twice.

Not proposing a change or anything; I just wanted to know why.

Well, every turn is a double wide turn, so it wouldn't make sense if we used R- instead if R--. It's like using R instead of R2. And for the r' d r d' thing, I'm sure it's partly because of what I just typed, and partly because what we use now is easier to read.
