Welcome, if you are going to get fast at roux you will have to learn CMLL. You can do COLL but CMLL is a little more optimal.

Also you don't need to know PLL for roux (there are a couple of rare cases that it may be useful for, but generally it's not needed).

He won't have to learn CMLL. COLL is by far a better decision. CMLL gives you on average -0.3 sec if you are fast with roux. For OH it is really cool to know. And if he decides to learn CMLL after COLL it just takes a few days.

If you're using roux you want CMLL. If you already know COLL then you can use those, but CMLL is generally has faster algs for roux.

Many algs are just the same or have a differnt insertion at the end because edges dont matter.
This makes ~3 moves extra -> 10TPS -> 0.3 seconds extra

Ah ok. Cool. I am practicing Roux too even though I'm a CFOPer. Not trying to switch but do want to learn other methods. ZZ is next on the list after I graduate sub-30 with Roux. You can join sub-30 race.
