I am trying do decide if I should switch speedcubing methods. I use fridrich with 2 look OLL and full PLL. I am considering changing to ZZ as I feel it might be faster. I am about 33 second average with several sub-30 times.

On 2x2 I use Ortega. I average about 10 seconds. Should I start learning CLL now or wait til I am faster at Ortega?

Thanks for your help. Also do you have any tips for whichever methods you think I should use?

42 algs for CLL may seem like a lot, but most of them are pretty easy to learn, and you'll see your times drastically lower almost immediately.

Definitely try ZZ. I use ZZ and I have seen lots of improvement since I switched. It's ok if you don't like it, but if you have fun doing it, you definitely can get VERY fast at ZZ. Don't listen to people who tell you otherwise; people thought Roux would never be very fast, and now, look at 5BLD.

RRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUX!!!!!!!!!!

more seriously: try whatever methods you want and if you like what you try then switch

2x2: get faster with ortega first if you want, or just learn cll if you're impatient (but most likely you'll still be slow because your recognition probably sucks if you average 10 seconds).

I'm also just thinking about switching, the methods, two days ago i decided to switch to Roux, but know I'm think about the time I needed to get to 10s and think about the switch :( And what about big cubes and OH I really like things like that

try them all and use the one which is the most fun for you. i would like to contradict Kirjava and say that Petrus and ZZ are also really fast methods if they suit you and you do them with enough passion :)

For 2x2, definately learn the CLLs, the earlier, the better. it will get your times down and help you to learn COLL/CMLL in the future!

EDIT: if you want to be fast at Onehanded, use ZZ :P

How long will it take me to get faster at OH with ZZ than with CFOP? My times with CFOP at OH are better than my 2H times with ZZ ;D

@JasonK: Thanks.

@Ickathu: I'll try that. I'm going to start with ZZ. Petrus is probably my worst because of the block building but roux and zz are both good.

Unless I'm misinterpreting you, you are doing Roux/ZZ wrong. They are similar to Petrus in that they both use blockbuilding - if you are doing the first steps the same way you'd do CFOP, it negates the efficiency benefits you gain from using these methods.

Good luck in your search; just remember that one method won't necessarily make it easier for you to get down to the sub-10 second range. It all comes down to practice.

:D ok I will try, because I'm just learning CMLL, and maybe there are some COLLs which I can use with ZZ OH :D
thx
