[Unofficial] 1.98 2x2 average of 50 with stackmat - UWR

Maybe I'm just not trying yo find best solution using whole 15 secs as you do :)

Yeah, I always try to find good solutions.

One small problem with using the inspection time things is scramble checking. PPT gives a picture of what the scramble should look like to prevent scrambling mistakes. If I am timing inspection, I don't want the scramble checking time to come out of inspection. Currently, I am scrambling, looking at the scramble picture, starting the inspection time, then starting the inspection. If I notice that the scramble is wrong, I can rescramble and do it again. Do people agree this is fair? The alternative is just not scramble checking at all.

I get the thing with overinspection, but is this really worth worrying about? That is a WCA rule, but this is at home. I still solved the cube, started the timer after I picked it up and stopped the timer after I had released the solved cube. If this wasn't a WCA rule, I doubt anyone would be saying that it makes the average not legit.

Don't you understand that we attempt to get people to use a standard so the results can be compared to each other? Claiming UWR is meaningless if you're using different rules to everyone else.

Why bother checking the scramble? Even if you scramble wrong, you've probably done the same number of moves as the scramble, and similar moves too. There is no real point.Checking the scramble matters in competitions mainly so everyone gets the same scramble. When you're the only solver, a scramble is a scramble.Nice average though :tuEdit: ^a strange habit that will be +2'd in competition. What matters more to you, your UWR in which you broke some rules, or the WR where you must follow regulations? Why encourage bad habits at home.

As I was writing this post, I realised there was a practical way to time inspection with PPT using stackmat. Since there is no point having fast times if nobody agrees with their legitimacy, I will start using that from now on. :) Expect many DNFs and +2s from me from now on.

Or you could just do a solve and pause to recognize the LL if you can't 1-look it in time. This isn't speedbld.

I was talking about following the rules in general. Inspection time too.

If it doesn't, why not do it properly?

These.

So why are you using stackmat instead of spacebar if stopping doesn't matter?

Awesome.

Expect many DNFs and +2s from me from now on.

And then after enough practise you can expect less and less - gogoWR.

My gosh, Cameron can't ever make a video without being slammed.
Since this timing inspection thing is such a big deal now, can qqTimer do the inspection if you're using stackmat? or am I going to have to switch to PPT for my times to be "legit"?

I'll probably continue scramble checking though - it takes little time and makes reconstructions a lot easier when I want them.

Obviously I will try to break the habit at home so I don't do it in competitions, I'm just saying that me accidentally doing it at home really doesn't affect the legitimacy of this average.

Yeah I guess. I have pretty much been starting at 12s if I haven't finished inspection, so I'm getting lots of non-1-look, slow solves. :(

So why are you using stackmat instead of spacebar if stopping doesn't matter?

By using spacebar I would be knowingly doing something that could give me an unfair advantage. By stopping the timer weirdly I was accidentally, without realising it, doing something that I doubt could give me any advantage at all.

I've actually realised that I don't just fail in competition because I'm generally nervous about the competition - I get nervous and do worse with someone calling, "8 seconds" and "go!" So using inspection time at home should help me do better in comp, especially considering that I have almost 3,000 solves with it left to do these holidays. :D

When 2x2 is mainly about planning the entire solve during the inspection at this speed, making sure you stay within the generally accepted rules for limits is completely reasonable. Cameron has, in the past, consistently gone over the inspection limit for a few solves in an average. There's nothing wrong with trying to enforce a standard for results.

No, that the wrong attitude. You should carry about inspection time at home too. If you don't practice in conditions as there are in comp you will likely fail.

I have very little authority with regards to 2x2 inspection, but it seems like it would be logical to attempt to practice one looking at home, untill one has an upcoming competition. By forcing themselves to one look, they become better at it, and therefore faster. But obviously one wouldn't have the slightest interest in making going over inspection habitual.

I agree with this for people who are bad at 1 look solving and need to practice it. But at the point Cameron is at, he doesn't really need a whole lot of improvement in the 1 look solving department. As far as I'm concerned, him not using WCA inspection guidlines is counter productive.
