For my birthday last December, I got a Megaminx as a gift. I'm 99% sure it's from some store at a mall, since a teenage girl bought it. I don't have the packaging, but I remember that it didn't have a brand; it was marketed as just "magic cube" or something like that. However, it turns really well, and I actually prefer it over my QJ.

Does anyone know what brand this Megaminx is? Is it just a random/KO Chinese Megaminx? (The stickers are cheap.)

I'm almost certain that it's a Mefferts. There is a toy store that sells Mefferts cubes around my area.

I don't think it's a Mefferts; it seems too cheaply-made. It's probably a Macy's brand.

i got it at some mall in china and the pieces look identical to a v3 except the edges dont have the little rod thing

marceldacs; I would think that the green color doesn't help much in identifying it; the more important is the shape of the internal pieces. Could you post more photos? All sides on each piece, plus the spider, and show the insides of the faces (where you adjust the tension); sometimes there is an emblem there. I just bought a ZhanChi and GuHong V2, but stupidly mixed them up before trying them out, so I don't know which is which. One of them came pre-lubed and is awesome to use. The other one has been horrible, I haven't been able to (speed)solve it a single time without the cube exploding on me. I've tried tightening the screws as much as I can but it doesn't help.

So a couple questions:
1. How do you distinguish between the ZhanChi and GuHong V2?
2. Are there tricks for the Dayan cubes to prevent them from popping/exploding? Would it help if I lubed it, or tried to sand down some parts or something? When I took it apart, I didn't notice any unusually misshapen pieces or anything.

Look at the edge pieces. The Guhong edge pieces are flat where they touch the corner pieces. The Zhanchi edge pieces have a little ridge that goes under the corner pieces. Also, the corner pieces on the Zhanchi are more rounded and curvy in the stem part. The Guhong corners have straight stems.

Hello everybody!

I'm looking to buy quality cube and in last two days I researched similar forums on the Internet and I found this to have very valuable informations.
After my investigation , I decided to buy GuHong V2 (with torpedos). I found very good deal here http://lightake.com/detail.do/sku.3x3x3_DaYan_2_GuHong_Magic_Cube_White-51177 but I'm not sure if this is GuHong V2 :rolleyes:

On pictures I see torpedos, but title is misleading for me..

So is this GuHong V2?

Yes - this is GuHong v2 - On lightake -They don't put full names of versions like V2,V1 - It says in title Strenghten edition - this proves this is v2.

Yeah, i'm sure it's guhong v2. It has torpedoes, and the box is yellow, not green like the v1's one.

Which version Shengshou is this?

I would consider myself a beginner I guess, I can solve a 3x3 in about a minute or so and I want to move up to a 4x4. I'm not really going to get really really into speed solving, I just want to be able to solve it. Unfortunately my parents only want me buying from Amazon so I am limited on options. Two cubes I am interested in are the Shengshou 4x4 v3 and the Mini QJ 4x4. The thing is, amazon does not specify which version shengshou is on sale. Here is the link:

I heard that v1 is not very good so I don't want to make the mistake of buying the wrong one. I thought I should just go with the QJ to be safe, until I found this forum. Also, which would you guys reccommend? The QJ or the Shengshou?
