[WR] Zane Carney - 23/25 Multi-BLD

Zane, what's your review system now? I'm curious if you've come up with something better since we last discussed this :tu

So in multi you do edges first, and in regular 3BLD you do corners first?
Why is that?

Congratulations though :)
At least for me, it's related to the memorization order. Basically, by solving in the same order that you memorized, you're just going through the memo and solving what you recall, rather than jumping through the memo to where corners started, then jumping back to where edges started, then jumping past the corners to the next edges, etc.

I review differently depending on the number of cubes I'm doing, here's what I do for 25:

For the first 16 cubes, I memo rows of 4 like so:
-Memo first 2 cubes, then review those 2.
-Memo the next 2, then review just those 2.
-Then review all 4.
I don't come back to these four until the final review.

-Repeat for next 3 rows.

For the last 8 cubes:
-Memo 2 cubes, review just those 2.
-Memo 2 cubes, review just those 2.
-Memo 2 cubes, review just those 2.
-Memo 2 cubes, review just those 2.

-Then, starting at the very first cube, I review everything I've memorised.

-Memorise final cube, then solve it like single 3x3 BLD.
-Then start executing from the start of my memo.

I want to improving this system, I often feel like I waste time on unnecessary reviews.
It would be way cooler to do 27 cubes and to arrange them as one big solved cube (3 cubes per edge)! :D
Oooo sounds good, it seems like a fun challenge to stack them without knocking cubes off.
Congratz Zane on beating the WR! It's astonishing, that with your crazy speed you could break it even with having 2 cubes unsolved! This is the first time, that the WR is not x/x!
Thanks a lot Sébastien. :D
It's actually the first WR to be x/x since Clément Gallet. :)

Thanks. :)

For 3x3 BLD, I memorise the corners using audio. Since audio memo doesn't stick for very long, I execute the corners first.
For multi, in addition to what Aron mentioned, I've always found it nice to fix parity by solving the last edge with Z-perm and the last corner with OP.

Very good Zane!

(and I find it a little amusing that you missed the last cube (first solved)
like Jakob complained about and I think happens to me much more often
than it "should" statistically).

Hehe, I was very sure that someone would reply this. But Clément actually never held that WR. This is only displayed because of the current regulations projected to the past.
Stefan Pochmann set a WR of 5/5 during Euro 2006. As until 2008's regulations any x/x was better then any x/y, every WR was x/x again. Then Tim's 24/24 was done at German Open 2008, which was the first competition after that regulation change.
So....well, I'm right! :P

Oh yea I forgot the regulation change happened in two steps. The hour limit was not in the regulations until 2009 version.
Some parts of history slips by fast huh?

Congrats Zane.

(you just need 11 more cubes to claim most solved cube during a multi attempt, though you only have 1 hour and Mondo used 6h :P )

Awesome job, Zane! As Kai said: I have some work to do now... :)

Have you ever tried reviewing less at home? That really sounds like a lot of wasted time.
And: Do you let your images interact with the locations or just with each other?

cool! I will try it...

I usually do:

cube1: review cube 1
cube2: review cube 1 and 2
cube3: review cube 1 2 and 3
and so on till cube 5
than the same from cube 5 five to cube 10
than review of all cubes and then the last two cubes...

Congrats Zane on your WR! Amazing stuff! 25 cubes in one hour is really inspiring!

I'm at work right now, so I can't watch the video at the moment, but I will as soon as I can!

Congrats again! :tu :D

Thanks again everyone! :D

Hehe, I should've known not to question you. :P
I just read some old pages on the WCA forum and wiki to get a better understanding, interesting.

Thanks Tim!

I haven't tried anything significant to reduce the review time yet. (Sometimes I might skip the review of 4 cubes, that's it.)
The final review certainly takes a huge chunk of time, but I really don't want to get rid of that.

A system I've been considering is:
-Memo 2 cubes, review just those 2.
-Memo next 2 cubes, review just those 2...
-Repeat for all cubes.
-Final review.

I don't have much confidence in this system though, 2 reviews per cube seems too difficult for me.
Hopefully the final review is made easier by the shorter time between memorising and the final review.

Also, I'm interested in how you go about reviewing. :)
And: Do you let your images interact with the locations or just with each other?
I've never put much thought into this, my images usually have little interaction with the locations.
It depends on what the images are, something might burst from the ground, wall or roof. Do you do much of this interaction?

I usually never make a final review. But when I do, my execution time is much faster and the images are very clear. I don't know which path to choose, though...

I've somehow misread your review explanation and assumed you're reviewing each cube after you've memorized it and then review it again after your second cube. Sorry for that. ^^
I'm basically doing exactly the same as you, but I review after one cube instead of two (since you use only ten images per cube compared to my 20 images, that's actually the same). And I went from a chunk of four to a chunk of six cubes over the years (yeah, that's YEARS!).

I was curious, because my images have almost no interaction with the locations and I believe, that you can skip quite a few reviews by making stronger interactions. But that's just a guess.
