Your thoughts on the new Private forum?

You're normal - deal with it. I assume you're also not a world memory champion, or a professional football player, or a multibillionaire; that doesn't mean there's anything *wrong* with you, just that you haven't achieved something.

ahhh! the private subforums are for super members!
yup, I'm normal. you don't know me but you are right. I am normal. :D

but I guess you are not normal.. I assume you're also a world memory champion, or a professional football player, or a multibillionaire

Well, maybe if we all stop being stupid, then we don't need a private forum.

I'll just give you a hint right now. You need to use proper grammar to even be considered.

:tu

Back after my 8:17.43 DNF by two flipped edges and two twisted corners. Plus there was about a minute wasted when my dad made me do something during memo. >.>

ahhh! the private subforums are for super members!

Not super; just members who can contribute quality ideas and generate constructive discussion without all of the unnecessary interruptions of the public forum.

I personally love the idea, and honestly don't think I should be in it... at least not at the moment. Ya, I'm a 12 year old cuber who has been on the forum for about a year and has sorta close to 1,000 posts (around 900 by now, I think), but I haven't brought up a new method, or suggested some big idea, etc. Although I do think I am maturing, and of course hope to be noticed, and will sometime be accepted in, I don't see why you're angry. It's not a big deal if you're new and don't have lots of posts/experience, etc. Or if you used to be new, and post a load of crap that you're known for...

I recently looked back at the first thread I ever made back in September of 2010 that was about Hybrid Cubes. I feel like such an ***** now :fp and I hope I'm not known for things like this.

Oh, and just a random note: I was extremely close to creating a new thread about a new method for the first two layers, but later on realized that it was already known as the keyhole method :fp

EDIT: I just said I-D-I-O-T...

"INEQUALITY" - yup, there is
I don't like the idea. Only great/good members are in that subforum.
so what am I if I'm not in there? am I bad? or am I just unpopular?
you are building up a separation line between members here.
(the private subforum members and the non-private sub forum members)

Strict implementation of the site rule is the best solution against noisy members.

although I have no interest with that private sub forum, I hope moderators think what other members would feel.
Clearly, other members have bad impression about that private subforum
peace to everyone. :)

What makes you qualify for the private forum more than everyone else?
I will repost what I did in the private forum sticky:
The idea is to have a forum where only members who have contributed quality content/ideas/thoughts can discuss stuff (beginners are welcome if you can prove to provide quality insight into discussions). It will somewhat act as a role model to the rest of the forum - write quality content and you are then allowed to write in the private forum. The idea isn't to draw away from the quality of the rest of the forum, but more so allow people to discuss without all the noise that exists.

As for the memberlist - it is simple, if someone begins to cause problems or create noise, they will simply be removed from the private forum. We are looking forward to quality discussion, and only posts that actually mean something or contribute something instead of "yeah" or "+1" or "go search first". If someone does this, they will be removed, no questions asked.

Also, we will have a form setup so you can request to have access to the private forum (everyone will always be able to read the content, but only approved members can post/discuss). We don't want to push people out. If you can contribute to a quality discussion, you are welcome to join and want you to join. Keep in mind this will take some time to develop.

To all members wanting to get in or wondering why they aren't in: the forum is big. It will take some time to expand this, and we want to do it over time. There will be a request form out shortly where you can request access to the private forum. However, only request access after you have proven that you can make quality, insightful posts (which takes some time to do). You don't need to be a genius, you just need to be able to think without making a fool out of yourself.

lol. uhmm.. maybe? :lol
just saying.. and all what i am saying is what I feel.
I don't hate anyone though, I know the private subform is supposedly for the good of all.
I like the goal, but I don't like the move.
peace :D

Yeah man
And it's not like other members can't at least read the posts. It's just they can't post in there.
Like, I think the mods have a section on most forums

Strict implementation of the site rule is the best solution against noisy members.

Implementation of the rules is only an after-the-fact solution. We would still have to go through and delete posts/infract people for spam. The private forum is taking preventative measures, potentially missing out on a contribution from someone because they are not on the private forum is better than many contributors overlooking a good thread because it is filled with spam. Also there has pretty much always been an unspoken separation of contributing members from others, we're just making a physical list now.

*Directed at everyone* We just started this and are compiling the list of private forum members from scratch. Just because you are not on the list today, doesn't mean you won't be there tomorrow. If you really want access to the private forum you should evaluate the content/appearance/frequency of your posts and compare them to others to see how you might improve. Please do not go out of your way to try and get in, desperate attempts will be obvious.

Some tips:
1. Read the thread before posting. This should seem obvious but I see of ton of people posting what has already been said earlier in a thread. I have also seen people post on topics far outside the thread topic because they didn't bother reading it properly.

2. Lurk. It's okay to not post on something you find interesting. Things like "wow, that's cool" are nice and all, but don't really contribute to anything. If you are going to quote someone just to say "I agree" you can either not post or say something like "I agree because _______" This does not really apply to solve videos, saying "congrats" on a video of a WR etc even though 10 other people have said "congrats" or "wow fast" is to be expected.

3. Search function. Please look beyond the first page of results. It's okay to bump an old topic if you are adding something to it or want to see people's current opinion on something.

I think the private forum will just increase the amount of stupid threads in the public forum. A lot of people will be trying to prove themselves worthy of the private forum by trying even harder to post even more "innovative" threads like "NEW METHOD FOR SOLVING 3x3."

I also think that everything from the private forum (threads and replies) should be duplicated to the public forum. That way the private forum will be sort of an auto-filter to filter out the people that haven't shown themselves to be "worthy" of the private forum, but everyone can still participate in the discussion.

@DavidWoner - the after-the-fact solution will be a preventive measure.
Ban is a preventive measure/after-the-fact solution, which is on the site rule.

anyway, I already said what I think. and the admin read it also,
so I will just support the decision of the admin and moderators. :tu

i understand why you made this forum. but honestly i think it wont help that much: in the whole "cubing terms" discussion i see some posts that i would certainly classify as "noise". (e.g. finding a new f-word for cfop or discussing whether LSE or L6E looks nicer)
also disussing several changes of different terms (and new notation ideas etc.) in one single thread doesnt make much sense to me.

and as talon already said there is a seperation of members. it will be hard to draw a line:
as already mentioned in this thread, thom made some postings that were really unconstructive and (if i was a mod) a good reason for even banning him from the normal forum.
i also do remember a thread where kirjava posted lots of pictures in order to get it closed. this is also an unacceptable form of discussion imo.
dont take this as a personal attack. it is just an example.
on the other hand what qualifies you for being in the private forum? if you have a certain number of constructive postings you will be accepted? if you promote person x you will have to promote person y because he is on (nearly) the same level. will it even be possible to prove oneself's importance if the only important discussions are going on in the private forum? this might be a little far away but when the private forum grows very big, private members will stop interesting in the normal forum and might not even recognise the "new constructive members".

and i also dont like the yellow highlighting in the recent threads section. it looks like s/o is trying to tell us normal people: "hey read this. a private member made another very important statement. dont miss it!"

I think the new private forum is a great idea. You can finally read through a thread constructive posts and no noise.

in the whole "cubing terms" discussion i see some posts that i would certainly classify as "noise". (e.g. finding a new f-word for cfop

How is that "noise?" The topic is to discuss dealing with cubing terms that need to be cleaned up in some way, and the "F2L" in CFOP certainly falls under that category.

Whether it's a good idea or not, its implementation'll just play itself out. If it works well, then it'll likely stay; if it causes problems then it will probably be revised or removed.
Not if this happens.

will it even be possible to prove oneself's importance if the only important discussions are going on in the private forum? this might be a little far away but when the private forum grows very big, private members will stop interesting in the normal forum and might not even recognise the "new constructive members".
