These Forums are Becoming Awful

If we want to increase the quality of the forum, and remove meanness, the solution is not to ban people who are mean/sarcastic/rude (unless they are just being a dick for no reason). I mean, that'll work, but veteran members won't like it, and there's a better solution: work to eliminate the types of things that lead to mean responses.

Basically, I think the best idea is to do something to impress the quality we want onto new or nooby users. When they make a post that wastes space, is hard to read, or is very low quality for some other reason, they should be given a slap on the wrist and the post should be removed or fixed. If they keep doing it they should be given short bans (like, a day or less), not to be mean to them, but to show that we are serious about posts being worthwhile. I think a little benevolent tyranny would go a long way. (While I'm here: off-topic posts should still be allowed if they are funny or interesting; we just don't want random chat-level stuff filling up threads.) Since some forum members have a tendency to respond to bad posts with tons of useless nitpicking replies, when a bad post is fixed/removed by the mods, it wouldn't hurt to also delete the responses making fun of it. They really just clutter up threads, and IMO certain people really have to learn not to do that. Right now it's really the only way to feel you can fight back against low quality stuff, but if a plan like this was in place, I think people would stop feeling the need to backseat moderate.
This is right on the money, however, it is what we do and have done for awhile now, at least to an extent. I do agree that we need to show my example. Moderating every post is impractical. Currently most posts (which are examples) show a lack of quality, which basically just feeds to each new member as the quality that is expected here. From this point on, how do you suggest we implement this without having to moderate every post?

By the way, is the reporting function anonymous?
Only mods. see who reported the post. Don't hesitate to report a post if it genuinely should be looked at.

This seems to happen quite frequently too. Would it be possible to have some kind of warning come up when somebody is about to bump a thread over a certain length of time?
I'm not trying to start an argument, but what's so bad about bumping really old threads? I mean, unless the topic itself is really out of date, it's not much different than making a new thread about the same topic.

I agree but when I make a thread it because i'm expressing my opinion or asking for help or somthing like that and I alot of trolling like this one http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?33765-Not-very-new-type-of-fused-cube. I had originaly posted this thread as "new type of fused cube" all I was trying to do is expand the you mind sou you can think of some very good mods. But every one told me that this was not a new mod and I already knew that and they were saying that that thread was a useless one and I didn't see why.

This is the point where I feel like you totally copied Stachu with your thread. . . but I agree. If i bumped this sorry but someone else did before me and I didnt see this thread yet haha

It was useless. You claimed it as your own when it wasn't, you said it was new when you knew it wasn't, you can turn all 6 sides so it's literally like solving a normal cube, which ruins the point of a fused cube.

And by the way, people on that thread were not trolling, they were telling the truth (other than a few posts). You are the troll, not us.
