I'm by no means a 2x2 expert, but I think if you're going to eventually learn CLL, you should just stick with Ortega, and try looking further into the solves (like knowing OLL before making a face, knowing which PBL you'll have while doing OLL, knowing what PLL you have on bottom before you do OLL, etc). Sub5 2x2 using Ortega is possible, and Rowan posted a sub4 avg12 using Ortega and LBL on his youtube account.
I also remember discussion in the past saying that if you should stick with a "type" of method. A type as in PBL vs building a layer. The ultimate tool for 2x2 though is knowing many methods so you can take advantage of all the "easy" cases of the various methods, which result in fast times. So if you really want to excel with 2x2, learn guimond, ss, CLL, EG0, EG1, etc. You might also look into Sortega.
