phenomenal decrease in times?

I was average around in the 19s range, until yesterday, when I starting averaging 16~17. Can anyone think of a reason this happens? (it's happened to me from 30 second averages to suddenly around 25)

I hit this about a month ago. My averages of 100 dropped by more than a second in the span of a week. Easy explanation: ZBLL practice. You just finished learning COLL (right?), so you've done more alg practice than normal recently. Learning new algs improves your finger speed by quite a bit, and I think that is the primary reason for your speed increase. Lookahead is great, but you need raw speed to do anything quickly.

Yeah, plateaus followed by sudden jumps are extremely common. Rarely is progress smooth. It can be frustrating while you're stuck on a plateau, but just as rewarding when your times finally make the jump.

Short breaks tend to help cubers with their look ahead and fingertricks. If you practice too much, you will get into a rhythm of being that slow. I used to do 100+ solves a day,(Don't try this at home, kids) and I stayed at 26 seconds for about 2 months. I went down to myrtle beach, and I got more focused on wiffleball when I got back. Now that I practice a little less, my times are around 23 on average. I also got into color neutrality for a while. That kind of helped, too.

So, for anyone who does 80+ solve a day, you have to take a break. Trust me. It works.

These.

I was stuck at 22s average for 2 months with a load of practise. Then I lost motivation and practised less, and after a few days I was averageing 18-19.

Once my PB improved from 32 seconds (where it had been for 3 years) to 26 in one day. That was when I first attempted to use the concept of lookahead. More recently I went from averaging 29-30 to 26-27. It felt like my brain suddenly figured out how to keep up with my fingers.
Now I'm learning OLL, which I hope will get me under 25 since my LL currently sucks.
