Well I have been looking at a lot of things on here and mainly everyone says to 'look ahead'. Yes I must admit I need to do better at that. But regardless I am still doing F2l at a steady speed of 60 on the metronome and can go faster if need be. With the beginner method I avearge about a minute. best time was 45 seconds. With F2L I am averaging 1 minute forty seconds :/ I have been non stop practicing it for the last week and it really isnt getting any better. How long should I expect to be practing till I can get a sub minute average with fredrich?
Thanks :D

Patience, and practice, are the biggest things that will help you now. If you want one maxim to remember that will help you speed up at this stage in your cubing it is this:

Trying to go fast will only result in lockups, bad lookahead, and slow times. Don't go fast, go slow. Slow is fast in cubing.

Chris

1st of all, you need a lot of practice to get sub-40
looking ahead is important, and the cube type is important

for now, just keep with you're cube, keep the practice a lot

and use search function before posting, like Steven said

i hope this helps, and welcome to SpeedSolving.com

P.S: Read Backwards :D

Sorry about not searching first. :/ Should have known. But yeah thanks for your help. I will continue to practice look ahead I suppose, and go slow. If you have any other tips they would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

F2L literally doubled my average time when I first started with it. Now I'm about half that time. Not 100% sure the time frame but I think I'm probably around a month from when I started F2L.

I think I was just under 2 minutes when I learned it, went up to 3.5-4 for a while, took a while to get back to 2, and now I'm averaging 1 minute. My bests are in the 40's.

I've still got a ways to go obviously, but you get my point. I asked the same question and was told by several it is normal.

:)

Any time you add something new there is a good chance it will temporarily increase your times while you get used to it. Going full PLL or full OLL will most likely have the same effect.

Yes. I agree with brunson. Trying F2L increased my times by about a minute the first week or so. But you'll never get faster with that technique until you force yourself to use it in a real solve. So, try to bear with the poor times for a while. Keep using F2L, and you'll be impressed with the results soon enough.

Took me about 3 weeks before my F2L times surpassed my layer by layer times, and that was with probably an hour of practice per day. So just give it some time.

One turn per second and you average 1:40? Either your other steps are bad or your Fridrich F2L is a ton of moves.

Give us an accurate breakdown of your times, and the number of moves it takes you to do Cross + F2L. At your level it should be under 50 moves, if it isn't then you have a problem there.

Ok just timed the cube breakdown. With layer by layer I get f2l in 59 seconds. Bl takes 20 seconds. With f2l it takes 1 minute 40 seconds for f2l :0 and 19 seconds for bl.
On a seperate trial I counted moves going slow. F2l took 42 moves counting all the u2's and oll took 8 moves and pll took 25 moves. Idk if this is avg or not?

I forgot to mention I am bringing this damn thing everywhere. I'm averaging 4 to 5 hours a day on this thing. :/ talk about boring ole school life haha.

Watch Lots of different tutorials on youtube. You might have already, but you'll pick up tips from each one. You will get faster. Also, Try slowing down your turns to improve lookahead.

i think PLL avg for 2 look is 20 moves.

8 moves for OLL is probably wrong, even with one look most of the algs take more then moves.

And you are not doing steady speed of 60 on metronome, because it would take 42 seconds on F2L not 1min40sec (unless you take 58 sec on cross) =p

I started learning F2L when i was averaging about 43 sec on layer by layer, my times went up to 1min30sec-2min but in a week i was with better average then LBL.

Well the oll already hadthe cross made. And I had chameleon so that's why it was 8 moves. And I usually mess up usingthe metronome 40 is more reasonable bpm should I keep using the metronome?

well he meant the very first cross u make...yes continue to use metronome. It helps with lookahead and also helps u get faster at turning, the higher the # the more turns per second u make. If 40 is too slow move up to 60. Thats where most people usually start.

Ok just timed the cube breakdown. With layer by With f2l it takes 1 minute 40 seconds for f2l
F2l took 42 moves
Ok man, you must be completely wrong, because 40 moves on 1 tps does not equal 100 seconds. Either you're counting your moves wrong, or you turn at like 0.4 tps. Tell us which one it is :D

And what does bl mean? Are you trying to say the last (aka 3rd) layer?

F2l took 42 moves counting all the u2's and oll took 8 moves and pll took 25 moves. Idk if this is avg or not?
Why don't you count the number of moves for like 5 solves?

"look ahead" is the most useless thing you can say to someone, that doesnt mean sheesh to me. oh okay ill "look ahead" that solves all of my problems!... you have to figure out how to get faster yourself using your creativity and algorithms. its not like i can just say "look ahead" and you'll magically reduce your f2l time by 60%

Does that mean you don't look ahead....? Because according to your WCA profile you average around 18-19 seconds, and if you don't look ahead that would be pretty interesting. You're pretty good at big cubes too, and I think they require looking ahead too.

And how fast is your Cross + F2L, and how many last layer algorithms do you know?

I'm tellin' ya man this is normal. It took me like 2 weeks to match my LBL times after I started F2L, and another two to half that. I asked around and was told it was normal... just keep practicing you'll get back up to speed. :)
