Hi guys. I am trying to figure out if there is a name for the method I used to use for the 3x3. It uses a keyhole f2l but then uses a last layer method that I can not seem to find a name for anywhere. Does it have an official one? Does anyone happen to have a link to the original solve?

Here is me solving a cube to show what this method is. Thank you.

Doug

Looks like ELS from MGLS, except it permutes edges, and then a corner commutator to permute corners. Followed by orientation.

Cool method dude.

Thanks a cool program that you use. Is it downloadable off the internet?

Way to hijack a thread and get off topic...

Ok... Well seeing as nobody had said anything yet that related to his question, and it wasn't totally off topic, I thought it was fine to ask. Besides, I didn't ask you

Hmm...*goes and looks up MGLS*... I guess that they are kind of similar. It does seem to contain an intuitive method of ELS, and then splits the later steps into a more beginner friendly method.

This method really seemed to catch my attention when I started cubing. I found it to be intuitive enough that it kept my focus more. This is the method that I teach to everyone that wants to learn the 3x3 for the first time. It seems that the hardest part to learn is intuitively placing the first 3 yellow edges.

Thanks, I'm going to try the 20x20 first

I learned this exact method back in 1998 from Mark Jeays' site. I liked it a lot as well too, it was much faster than the standard layer-by-layer back when I first started.

As for the youtube video you referred to I have no idea.

Mark apparently has posted videos on youtube, and in some of them he is wearing darker colored sleeves. Perhaps those are the youtube videos you refer to? Check the link from Mark's site to see the videos.

Yes, that is it!!! Thank you so much. Do you happen to know if he still cubes?

I don't know actually. I e-mailed him about 4-5 years ago to basically say thank you. His first solution was the one I used to learn how to solve the cube, and his second solution is what led me down the road toward speedcubing, since I was getting bored of the regular LBL beginner method after about a month.

I really should e-mail him again, seeing as without his page I would probably not be a speedcuber right now. I'll ask him and tell him about this forum, if he doesn't already know about it.

Chris

This is the first method I learnt after LBL as well, although I've completely forgot where I learnt it :(
