Erik vs Wikipedia

At http://tinyurl.com/22rz7d you can see Google's cache of Wikipedia's page about Erik Akkersdijk. Doesn't say much, but does say he's the official world record holder for Rubik's cube.

That's only Google's cache. At Wikipedia itself, the page was deleted:

Agreed. It's quite unfortunate that there are pages upon pages of trivial stuff like Warcraft lore and content like this gets removed.

Well, different things are important to different people... It's kinda hard to be objective. So I guess I can forgive the guy... it's not like he's a paid professional.

Update: I mailed Danny, clarifying that Erik doesn't just solve the cube but has the official world record, and he replied that indeed he thinks that's not notable. I admit I didn't know Wikipedia's notability guidelines and maybe what's notable for us really isn't considered notable for Wikipedia. So I apologize for my outburst. Though, I still feel that that deletion reason phrase was rather ignorant and insulting. Oh well, whatever. It's not like Wikipedia is where cubers look for information about cubing. Kinda like the Guiness book.

I don't see the point.Why should any information be deleted.I mean why should his record being "notable" or not make a difference?After all it is just a fact and it is true.

I don't understand how natural phenomena are considered records (and apparently 'notable'), while speedcubing records are not.

I must say, its not like there is a real need for a page for everyone that can solve the cube quick but based on what he said why should people like Asafa Powell have his own page, sure he has the 100m WR which is more famous and all but its no different...

this is probably just a popularity thing. Everyone knows about darts or something but because nobody knows about speedcubing the records aren't considered so great...

who cares if someone has his own two lines in some unimportant wikipedia article? is this some new way of showing off or making a big deal about something which most people dont care about? if there is a new world record or something.. post it on the Speedcubing article, so people who are interested can see it.. I think thats enough, isnt it?

I reckon the different methods for solving the Rubik's Cube deserve their own page.

Listing every speedsolver might be a bit of overkill but a current World Record holder should be listed on "some" page, perhaps not their own. *shrug*

Then again, I only refer to wikipedia to point me in the right direction regarding ideal software for programming ^_^

While on the topic of wikipedia, I really don't think Mr Verdes should have his cubes promoted in the summary of a "Rubik's Cube". It's not directly related to the definition of "The Rubik's Cube (3x3x3)". Otherwise we might as well mention Ewe Meffert and his 5x5x5 cubes :-/
