4 Pad is Coming Next Year

Completely understand why this is happening, but that doesn't mean I like it.
No particular reason to why I don't, I just don't.

However I am willing to bet that there will be some controversy where some persons record, worlds podium average, something idk gets disqualified because it was set to 2-Pad and the judge did not change it and (I think that it is the judges duty to deal with that).

Also oddly weird for the WCA to involve clock into this despite their obvious hatred towards this. Way to be hypocritical.
Didn't know that timer stops also require thumbs.

Speed stackers literally faced a record reset due to the fact that it would add roughly 0.2s to their times due to this,
In sprint events this can be considered (especially in 2x2) a significant portion of the solve.
If only there was a g6 that made it so starts are 4-Pad, stops are 2 pad.

Look at this video, this is how they used to do stacking with 2-pad. Look at his hand position, of course it would add 0.2 to implement 4-pad. Also look at how they position their hands with 4-pad in the second video, then it becomes clear why they needed a record reset. It's similar to if sliding were allowed before 4-pad, it would also save around 0.2, and likely need a record reset. But cubing doesn't start with the same position, rather something nearly identical to what 4-pad asks. So, no, cubing isn't going to get slower, because we aren't having questionable starts like speedstacking, unless you're sliding. If you can't get the same times with 4-pad, as on 2-pad, then it's a skill issue, and you need to practice more. Unless you're sliding, or trying to game the system with a different hand position, your thumbs are already resting on the pads, if not extremely close to them. Even stopping with 4-pad won't really be a timeloss, it's just a slightly different way you need to get used to.

Was unaware of how timer starts worked, just assumed it was like cubing. My fault.

Yes, I get what you mean, but I still think that 4-pad stops (which I know the WCA cant really control) is annoying and would much rather a sort of timer that allows 2-gen stops.
It may just be because of the hand position I have been used to for the majority of my cubing journey.

Thanks for correcting me, should have probably looked more depth into it.

Are we forgetting the early timer stops drama? Four pad stops remove that possibility, as one's wrists won't have the ability to hit the thumb pads.

here is a bit of science i did:

I've been practicing execution of the 4 mover U R U' R'. It's not perfect, but i did practice before the 4 pad to somewhat compensate for being used to 2-pad. keep in mind I've only seriously started practicing 4-pad today so with time I should be closer to 2-pad.

Both had 2 DNF's and 2 +2's. Best 3 were 0.54, 0.55 0.56 for 2-pad and 0.60, 0.62, 0.62 for 4 pad. the 2pad +2's were faster with the 2.52 being the closest call so I'll give a slighter edge to 2 pad for that.
I'd say my loss was around 0.1 seconds. As i get more used to 4 pad i should be closer to parity between the two say ~0.05.

Why does everyone will be such a problem for bld? If you won't know where to put your hands when it's 4-pad, how did you know where to put your hands when it was 2-pad?
because it requires more precision ?

In 2-pad you can just slam your hands down and there it stopped, but in 4-pad you may have to take more time to make sure you press the thumb sensors.

Oh yeah completely forgot about that, it is probably just as much of an issue as sliding, so I am surprised at the lack of talk about that.
I was also pretty surprised at the lack of that, too. Specifically when people were talking about wanting 2 pad stops.
Though, I'm probably the least qualified to talk about this, as I mainly use spacebar and occasionally, my old QiYi timer, as It has a 3.5MM jack so a normal aux cable will connect it to my PC for CSTimer. (My Speedstacks Gen 4 has a 2.5MM jack and I rarely use it)

I did 6 blind solves and while I hesitated to remember 4-pad I had no problem missing.

I don't mind this change. A few things I noticed tho

It often takes longer for the thumbs to reach the sensors than your other fingers. Adds about 0.2 seconds
Also, frame-counting official solves (if needed) might be harder, since it's hard to see at what time someone's thumbs reach the sensors

Prediction: multiple record fails will happen in the first two months of this change, due to people failing to tap the thumb sensors at the end of the solve
