I stopped speedcubing since 2018, it’s now been about 8 years since I last seriously solving the cube fast (and I’d say 2012-2018 was the golden era for me, second is the 1980s), so I was rusty when I tried it a few months ago, I got sub 28 global. This month I took it a bit seriously, played around with my toy method, which is the lau method to have a different way of inspecting, explored the principles of ZZ, did Petrus, EO, EO awareness, VHLS and COLL I studied then eventually I developed other ways of solving the cube without rotating but with good look ahead.

The last week I dedicated my time to (besides talking about method building), Winter Variation just to play with it using EO methods (JLA, Petrus), and regain the PLL that I lost, with V perm being the most frustrating as I KEPT ON DOING IT WRONG. So I made a rule to do it 20 times perfectly then you ca move on (I did it probably more than 600 times), practicing algs over and over (WV, PLL) probably made my hands more comfortable with better TPS.

Today it shocked me, as I finally hit sub 19 global (Ao100), integrating the fast turning style and the EO awareness. A few hours I just kept on spamming WV algs (not using it yet tho) this my arms got tired and so when I do CFOP solves I decided to slowdown, and thinking that I’ll get slower time, I DIDN’T, I got sub 18 Global, and a sub 16, with a Sub 14 single!

Now I find all this mixing of important concepts as well as integrating fast turns plus pushing your mind to look ahead, try uncomfortable solutions was worth it.

I hope by the end of the year I’ll not only reach my previous sub 12 global but have a 1 digit global average.

With all that, I still wanna speedsolve while having fun so I also plan to learn the following:

1. Regain all my forgotten OLLs
2. Learn full WV ✅ (done, to be mastered)
3. Learn full SV
4. Learn CPLE, CPLC, basic CP
5. Learn 2GLL
6. Sub 15 or at least Sub 20 ZZ
7. Master EO Petrus (without rotations, which I thought that’s how it’s done but petrus tutorial often rotate)
8. Get good at JLA, Lau
9. Play and get good at 223 APB style then integrate it to CFOP Solves.
10. Better XCross, and more timed inspection.
11. Try to new forum developed methods (Orcora Petrus, and some that already have a decent alg set even tho it might not be the most practical way of solving the cube)

Why those? I lowkey like them, and usually when I do like it I use methods (or basically find a way) that would always guarantee those alg set solutions to fully use them (e.g. 223 -> EO -> WV/SV, 223 EO, CP) so that it’s not hard to recognized when I now do CFOP and it strengthens my arsenal.

Goodluck to me!
