How do you actually get better at cubing? what practice methods?

in addition to all the great points mentioned above, i'll add one that worked for me:

go slow. slow is smooth, smooth is fast. (ik this sounds contradictory, but hear me out)

instead of spamming moves trying to get to the end faster, look for more efficient solutions. lookahead, prediction, etc. instead of pausing after each part of a solve, try to solve it in one, continuous motion (idk how to explain this in a better way, it's basically just a half and half of solving while predicting what the next pair/OLL/PLL is going to look like (tracking, i think it's called? idk my terms)).

as for practice, try making different sessions for different parts of a solve. eg -> i have a dedicated session to just F2L and PLL, and i dedicate at least ~30-40 mins of my total practice time each day to these sessions. otherwise, i'll try and learn new algs and better fingertricks.

i really don't know what else to add other than the fact that you should also do targeted practice sometimes, and something i've learnt: do like mock tests of all the algs you've learned at least at the end of each week, that way you can spam algs and it helps with muscle memory.

good luck!

Yeah eventually solves will be one looked for sure, some kid will learn to one look F2L like Xuanyi sometimes can, and then they will start to learn to predict 1lll (which they will know) in inspection.
yeah try learning 4k+ algs and then predicting full F2L and then spend 5 seconds in inspection trying to figure out what 1LLL case only to lock up on the last layer because 1LLL algs are garbage

trust me predicting full F2L is INSANELY HARD

Doesn’t ZB has as much cross flexibility as CFOP?
Cubers like Xuanyi and Yiheng are able to predict full F2L in inspection. If you are gonna use ZB, then you should probably focus on trying to plan until ZB. It’s not like you’re going to look through every cross and see if it has a good ZB case. For CFOP, this isn’t a problem because seeing what OLL you have is significantly easier than seeing what ZB you have. Plus, it’s much easier to lookahead to OLL and PLL than to lookahead to ZBLL. In CFOP you only need to recognize the orientation of 4-6 pieces, whereas with ZB you have to recognize the orientation of 4-6 pieces PLUS the CP/BH pattern of that case with makes it 4-6 pieces + 6 stickers.

TDLR: it’s better to be dual CN if you use ZB and full CN if you use CFOP

note: this is just my understanding, if I ever get faster later I might think this is completely false💀

PS. wait why would Yiheng suddenly try to be full CN all of sudden? That means he would have to check each cross for a good solution
