2025 SENIOR WORLD RECORD REVIEW
There were a total of 125 senior world records set by 35 people in 2025: 27 in 40+, 27 in 50+, 20 in 60+, 27 in 70+, and 24 in 80+.
Gary Miller has the biggest tally with 27 SWRs – three 70+ and the rest 80+. After setting the 3OH average and Clock best SWRs, he turned 80 in late August and started claiming all the records he could. At Mid-Atlantic Championship 2025 he set 11 new 80+ records in 2x2, 3OH, 4x4, Pyraminx, Square-1, Clock and Skewb, as well as improving his 70+ Clock record. In total over the year he set six 2x2 records, five each for Clock, Pyraminx and Skewb, three on 3OH, two on 4x4 and one on Square-1.
Next up is Mats Bersten with 17 SWRs in the 70+ bracket. He set 3x3 best records four times, 3OH and 3x3 average twice each, and also set records in 2x2, 4x4, 3BLD, 5BLD, MBLD, Clock and Square-1.
In third place is yours truly Shen Flindell with nine big cube 50+ SWRs: 7x7 best 4 times, 7x7 mean 3 times, and the 6x6 double.
Three top solvers set six SWRs in 2025. Ron van Bruchem made huge news with his 3x3 best time 7.66 at Samoa Nationals 2025, which is both a 40+ and 50+ SWR and improved on the 9.01s 50+ SWR he set in February. He also set 50+ SWRs in 5x5 average (twice) and 4x4 average.
Jia-Hong Lu demonstrated his all-round skills with six records in 5x5 average (twice), 3x3 average, 4BLD (mean and best) and 5BLD best.
Also on six SWRs is my fellow Brisbanite Rodney Topor in the 70+ age bracket: Skewb average 3 times, Skewb best twice, and 7x7 best.
Michael Stocker dominated the 7x7 mean table with 5 records through the year.
Three people set four SWRs each this year: In FMC Doug Li topped the table with mean 22.67 and best 20 twice each; blindfold expert István Kocza set 50+ SWRs in 3BLD mean (twice), MBLD and 4BLD; and 60+ all-rounder Lisa Kucala set two Clock average SWRs and claimed both 3OH records.
On three SWRs each we have Jae Park with 50+ SWRs in 4BLD best, 3BLD best and mean, and Ton Dennenbroek with 60+ SWRs in Megaminx best.
