Gunnar Kantare Krig joins my watchlist
The Gunnar Krig? Wow, it’s amazing when people stay for cubing that long, and it’s nice to see cubers from the past become old enough to get senior good senior rankings. An update on Leyan Lo, I have yet to hear a response from him and he is still omitted on the rankings. I may send a follow up email sooner or later.

Then at Side N Blind Narre Warren 2026 he made another 3BLD PR best 56.66, finishing up at 23rd. Interestingly because Side N Blind started before PBQ, the WCA website lists his SNB PRs before those from PBQ, but I can assure you this is the order he made them in.

AJ Nicholls (40+ 6x6 top ten) made an MBLD PR 13/14 in 1:00:00 at Manchester CL Third 2006, taking him from 24th to 17th.

Incidentally, I think the Dutch Englished much better than the Aussies this week: Big 'n Brain is far better than Side N Blind.

Several top ten results from outside my watchlist over the last week have come up, which I found via Phil Lewis' Recent Senior Records page:
: Anne Miller (70+) at Colonial Cube Clash VA 2026 – Clock average 1:52.82 (enters at 7th) and best 1:25.71 (8th to 7th)
: Radek Řehůřek (50+) at Onelooking in Olomouc 2026 - Pyraminx average 7.65 (remains 8th)

This week I also followed Bobby Mapp, Modest Podzolkin, Ron van Bruchem, Ulrich Spies, and Choi Goho, who competed without making any new PRs.

In 40+ Kinch rankings, Mike Hughey's Clock PR last week takes him from 11th to 10th ahead of the late great François Courtès. Multiple PRs this week have taken Jochen Bauer from 20th to 19th ahead of Pablo Say. Ge Shi's various blindfold PRs have brought him to the top page entering at 25th ahead of Jia-Hong Lu.

In 50+, YongGeal Lee is up from 12th to 11th ahead of Eric Dodson thanks to PRs in 3x3, Clock and Square-1 this week.

Congratulations to all of these high achievers!

Next week: Daniel Houghton, Chan Tak Chuen, Peter Hugosson-Miller, Igor Aipkin, Thor Muto Asmund, Ge Shi, Olivier Wirz, Ming Chai, AJ Nicholls, and Greg Simmons, at 10 competitions around the world, plus Akatsuki Kitamura, Anthony Rochester, Choi Goho, Danielle Kay, David Roche, Dennis Rosero, Doug Li, Guus Razoux Schultz, John Cook, Lisa Kucala, Min Wu, Ming Dao Ting, Rodney Topor, and Shen Flindell at FMC World.

My watchlist consists of the following:
: Cubes 3x3-7x7 - top 10 average, top 5 single 40+, top 5 average and top 2 single in older age groups
: 2x2, FMC, MM - top 5 average, top 2 single 40+, top 3 average and top single in older age groups
: BLD - top 5 average and single 40+, top 3 average and single in older age groups
: Other events - top 2 average, top single 40+, top average and top single in older age groups
: Kinch rankings – top 10 in 40+, top 5 in older age groups (minimum score 10), top 3 female
: Fastest to complete profile

This has resulted in a list of 119 "top ranked seniors". Please don't ask me to follow you as well, unless you fit the above criteria and I've missed something.

Please let me know if you know of anyone moving to a new age group who might be a candidate to join the top ranks.

Many thanks to Michael George for creating and maintaining the Senior Cubing Rankings website, and to Phil Lewis for creating the Senior Cubing Tracker site, which can be found via the Useful Links section of the SCR site.

WEEKEND COMP ROUNDUP (JUN 17-21)
Two SWR2s this week, one by the barest of margins, FMC World and some national records...

Greg Simmons (40+ Clock WR) made three PRs and two senior PRs at Wakefield Summer 2026: Clock average 6.51 followed by 6.37 takes him from 3rd to 2nd, pushing Ming Chai from my watchlist and falling just 0.01s short of Kanako Eguchi's senior world record; 3x3 average 14.58 takes him from 45th to 44th, and senior PR best 12.38 from 82nd to 65th; and Pyraminx senior PR average 10.61 takes him from 153rd to 135th.

Also in Wakefield, AJ Nicholls (40+ 6x6 WR8) made a 5BLD PR best 15:47.00, taking him from 25th to 18th.

Thor Muto Asmund (50+ Kinch #1) made an MBLD PR 19/20 in 59:17 at Billund Open 2026, taking him from 3rd to 2nd ahead of István Kocza, falling short of Ting He's 50+ world record by 3:50, and also taking him from 6th to 4th in 40+. It's worth noting that in MBLD five of the top ten 40+ results are by people over 50.

Five top senior solvers made PRs or senior PRs at FMC World 2026. Akatsuki Kitamura (50+ FMC WR) made an FMC PR mean 27.67, remaining ranked 3rd, and moving from 11th to equal 10th alongside Lars Vennike Nielsson in 40+.

Guus Razoux Schultz (60+ FMC WR3) equalled his 60+ PR best 29, remaining ranked 3rd.

Choi Goho (40+ big cube, MM WRs) made a PR mean 32.00, taking him from 34th to 26th.

Anthony Rochester (40+ MBLD WR2) made a double PR: mean 33.67 takes him from 51st to 35th, and best 33 from 72nd to 67th.

Finally from FMC World, Danielle Kay (3rd Kinch ranked senior female) made a double PR: best 32 takes her from 184th to 64th, and mean 45.33 from 134th to 83rd.

Igor Aipkin (40+ Kinch #5) made four PRs including two NRs at Uzbekistan Nationals 2026: 5BLD best 12:45.00 takes him from 11th to equal 7th alongside Timothy Lawrance; 4BLD mean 6:52.16 remains ranked 9th; 6x6 best 3:01.54 takes him from 23rd to 14th; and 7x7 mean 4:56.53 from 33rd to 18th. The 4BLD and 5BLD results are also Uzbekistani national records. He earned five podiums: 1st in 5BLD and FMC with best 32, 2nd in 4BLD with best 5:44.03, and 3rd in 3BLD with best 1:01.41 and MBLD with 12/15 in 55:50.

This week I also followed Chan Tak Chuen, Peter Hugosson-Miller, David Roche, Doug Li, John Cook, Lisa Kucala, Min Wu, Ming Dao Ting, Rodney Topor, and Shen Flindell, who competed without making any new PRs.

In 40+ Kinch rankings, AJ Nicholls' 5BLD and MBLD successes over the last two weeks have taken him from 12th to 10th ahead of Mike Hughey.

In 50+, Mats Bergsten's PR haul last week has brought him into the top page at 22nd ahead of Javier Tirado Ortiz despite being over 70! Nicole Hauser is also into the top page at 25th thanks to PRs in Clock and Skewb last week. As a result, Mickey Doyle and Dieter Amberger are out of the top 25.

In 60+, Mats Bergsten is up from 6th to 3rd ahead of Christian Sachgau.

In 70+, Shirley Ann Lewis has entered the top page at 22nd ahead of Didier Limal, though I think she must have registered recently as her qualifying results date from 2025.

Congratulations to all of these high achievers!

Next week: Chan Tak Chuen, Hung-Tsang Chen, Jia-Hong Lu, Peter Hugosson-Miller, Daniel Houghton, AJ Nicholls, Glyn Brown, Pete Lee, Danielle Kay, Ming Dao Ting, Rodney Topor, and Shen Flindell, in 6 competitions around the world.

Please let me know if you know of anyone moving to a new age group who might be a candidate to join the top ranks.

Sorry, if this is not the place to raise this, but I think it would be nice if consideration could be given to this - splitting this thread to have competition related posts separated from general matters that older cuber are concerned about. I am 80, not competing but genuinely interested in cubing, and I find it hard to weed through pages of competition results each time I come here to try to find out about other things that are interesting to me or older cuber, e.g. how to teach very young kids to solve, resources, or cubes suitable for older cuber to deal with arthritis, difficulty in leaning new algorithms, or easier or more efficient algorithms to reduce reliance on high TPS, etc. Are there anyone else with the same needs?

Perhaps sort of stupid of me to "like" Dans post when I perhaps is the most ardent
follower of Shens weekly reports. I really like them. On the other hand I understand
the need for simple algorithms and other things like that. I have much harder to learn
new things nowadays (like doing bld both memorizing bld algs and memorizing cubes
bld paths), not to speak of forgetting things already learned.

WEEKEND COMP ROUNDUP (JUN 26-28)
3x3 average SWR changes hands, plus three improved SWRs...

Jia-Hong Lu (40+ eight WRs) improved one SWR and claimed another at two comps this weekend. First he improved his 4BLD SWR by 4.14s with best 2:12.08 at Taipei PBQ Open 2026, also coming first place at the comp. He also came first in 5BLD with best 4:30.08, and third in 3BLD with best 26.15. Then he made two PRs at Taipei Cube Open 2026: 3x3 average 10.63 takes him from 2nd to 1st, beating Konsta Jukka's record from November by 0.10s; and 2x2 average 3.65 takes him from 18th to 3rd ahead of Pablo Say.

Rodney Topor (70+ seven WRs) made two PRs and double WR improvements at Queensland Open 2026: Skewb average 16.79 improves his previous record by 1.51s, and best 9.59 by 0.57s; Pyraminx best 10.88 takes him from 6th to 2nd ahead of Klaus Diller; and 3x3 best 40.86 from 11th to 9th ahead of Hideaki Tomoyori. Not likely for long IMO, because it'll shake the Kinch ranks and because competitors. :D

Shen will learn it in a week and start setting records, then Choi Goho will drop some ridiculous time on everyone.
Haha, I have just about learnt it in a day with the help of Noble Cubes' tutorial, but my times seem pretty slow. I reckon Ming Dao Ting (Tingman) would be much faster than me as he's been keen on it for a while.

Sorry, if this is not the place to raise this, but I think it would be nice if consideration could be given to this - splitting this thread to have competition related posts separated from general matters that older cuber are concerned about. Hey Dan, I'm the one filling up this thread with comp reports and I totally agree with you. Firstly this is definitely the place to raise this, and in this forum it seems to be the only place to raise anything related to senior cubing.

I've been posting my weekly reports on Facebook's Senior Cubers Worldwide group for a while, and Phil Lewis requested me to post the reports here too, as several of my featured star solvers are active here but not on Facebook.

The first thing I thought and said when I came here was that surely the existence of an active 1000+ page thread implies the demand for a sub-forum with many different threads. I think Mike Hughey is an admin on speedsolving.com? Could we get a Seniors sub-forum, please?

Thanks, Shen, and also everyone who "liked" or understands what I was talking about.

For anyone also suffering from joint issues or arthritis, I found a very nice cube recently, the Picube version of Gan's V100 with springs. It weighs only 65g, but it has a 20-magnet core and repelling edge magnets. It turns at least as well as and definitely with even less effort than my trusted Guhong Pro+. It is noticeably lighter too
👍😃
