I don't think I would understand it, but you could contact him on his website
Most is in german but google Translate should work well enough
I don't understand German much, and Google translate is prone to errors yo.

Rough translation of the text that is not translated already on the website:
Note: I was not the one giving this method this name. During worlds 2007, I made a video on how I solved the 4x4 like this. Because of this video, many people looked in various Forums for this method. Since someone knew what my surname was, they simply named the method after me. Only months after, someone pointed these posts out to me and I was asked to publish my method.
Today, I still solve the 4x4 and other big cubes like this. It is definitely not the fastest way to solve big cubes, but interesting for all Roux users.

I watched some meyer tutorial videos and it looks like a great method for roux users
stadler is cool too
but meyer seemed less restrictive

I like yau for the same reason as CFOP. Good lookahead in solves. K4 sounds interesting but i don’t want to be learning comms and f3l just for a big cube

I personally think yau is the best, and most top speedcubers use it. While I would like to use yau, I use redux atm. I just can’t seem to keep the cross intact while building centers and pairing edges.
The Trick is to hold your fingers of the left hand on the 3 completed cross pieces and work only on the one side that is free.
As long as you hold them, you can't break them ;)
You have to get used to it but if you do it this way, it's not so hard.

Sometimes it still happens that I break one of the edgepieces, especially on Yau5 where the centerbuilding is a little more complicated, but in these cases you just repair them after and with more practice it will get less.

Just to clarify, Yau on 5x5 is NOT Yau5. It’s a terrible terrible name. In Yau5, you build 2 adjacent F2L edges and solve them during the edge paring step to fill in blind spots in 3x3 stage. In general it’s not recommended over normal Yau

I'm surprised there isn't a lot of discussion on this so I'm making a poll, a quick rundown for all the methods in case you don't know. Yau: Solve two adjacent centers, make 3 cross edges and attach them to the center, make the rest of the centers, solve the last cross edge, edge pairing, solve like 3x3. Hoya: Solve all centers except for front and top, inert cross edges to solve cross, solve last two centers, edge pairing, solve like 3x3. Redux: Solve all centers, edge pairing, solve like a 3x3. F3L: (Note I'm basing this off of cube masters method there are some other F3L methods out there) Solve bottom center (Must be cross color), join cross edges and vertical center bars to simultaneously solve cross and centers, edge pairing, solve like a 3x3.

I personally use Hoya for its freedom with the first four centers and not having to solve the last cross edge after finishing centers.
Trying to learn yau but I don't understand what is jperm trying to say so I am using redux

try hoya (also necropost but i think its allowed this time since this thread cant really go out of date)

Necroposting is shrimply when someone, in this scenario you, posts something onto a thread that hasnt had a post in a long period of time. Imo its only really annoying if the thread can kinda go out of date , where once it has an answer or something there is no reason to post onto it.

That’s not a necropost mate.

What bit of it don’t you understand? Also are you watching beginner tutorial? Just asking bc that tutorial teaches a bad edge pairing method.

The only things that are different about yau than redux are:

- Build 3 cross edges on your cross colour. Then solve all the remaining centres whilst keeping the unsolved edge in the U layer. Then finish the cross (better ways of doing but learn that later).
- Edges are practically the same, but lookahead is much faster and the step is shorter. Only thing is make sure the cross isn’t ever being broken.

If you didn’t understand, then just rewatch the tutorial or try a different one. I would only learn Yau if you commit to 3-2-3 so the ‘how to solve a 4x4’ shortcat vid is probably not one I’d recommend.

I don’t know what you average, but if you average 2 or above probably don’t learn yau until a bit faster.

tbh i thought a necropost is any time a thread is bumped after a large period of time has passed without new posts ?
or is it only if the thread is one that doesnt really need bumping ?
i did acknowledge that, but ok.

A necropost is when you bump a thread that's like 5+ years old AND it is a low effort post (eg one word replies). As long as you have sometime relevant to post which seeks to contribute to the discussion, its fine. However, generally, I recommend using the search tool to find if there is any newer threads of the same topic before bumping a really old thread.

As long as you put effort into the post with the goal of providing a new and valuable perspective which furthers the discussion in a non-trivial way.. that's totally valid.
